Summary You will serve as a ELECTRICIAN in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC NORTHWEST. Responsibilities You will service lines, substations, transformers, converters, regulators, circuit breakers, round connects, mechanical/electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found in substations and power generating facilities. You will installs, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, and loads new and existing systems such as lighting protection systems You will perform installation or repair of power transfer units which automatically control emergency generators when sensing low commercial line voltage, motor/engine malfunctions utilizing relays, timers, and time delay relays. You will troubleshoot cable systems to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks, using such common electrical test devices as voltmeter, ohmmeter, and megger. You will maintain, replace, test and reset circuit breakers in switch and substations, at shore installations including pier mounted unit substations and vaults. You will services, maintain, and provide short power cables from pier side shore power mounds to ships. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Using electric power-generating and distribution equipment; 2) Reading circuit diagrams of interconnects to diagnose problems 3) Running diagnostic tests on electric power-controlling equipment in substations and power generating facilities.
