Position Overview:
The Electronics Engineering Division of the Accelerator Directorate is looking for an Accelerator Power Systems Technician III - DC Power and Modulator Systems to provide advanced technical support of particle accelerator and scientific equipment electronics systems by joining a fast paced, result driven, enthusiastic group of accelerator technicians.
The work includes the design, development, test, measurement, debugging, and maintenance of complex electronics, electro-mechanical, or computer equipment and systems where the application of advanced sophisticated technological skills, scientific principles, and creativity are required. Systems include fast communications, electronics readouts and controls, RF systems and high voltage DC or pulsed systems.
The APS Tech III - DC Power and Modulator Systems works under minimum supervision to maintain accelerator power systems with journey-level responsibilities for both DC Power and Klystron Modulator Systems. Recurring, routine technical work is reviewed generally for conformance to specifications and system performance.
Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.
Your specific responsibilities include:
Perform assigned and prioritized accelerator power system maintenance tasks.
Fabricate/assemble components including proto@types, experimental apparatus set-up, equipment operation, testing and checkout of these devices, and their maintenance and
Repair using appropriate tools, equipment, test procedures, and shop and safety practices.
Perform maintenance, modification, and repair of DC Power Systems using specific equipment procedures.
Perform maintenance, modification, and repair of Klystron Modulator Systems, using specific equipment procedures.
Assess DC Power Systems performance via the SLAC Control Systems.
Assess Klystron Modulator Systems performance via the SLAC Control Systems.
Self-check all completed assignments. Work may be checked intermittently by System Engineers.
Work occasional irregular hours, as required, in support of project, program, operations, or maintenance schedules and goals.
Maintain good standing in all personal training and qualification requirements.
Perform all work in accordance with established safety and work planning and control procedures and continuously strive to ensure a safe working environment
Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to lower level or less experienced staff on matters relating to complex circuit analysis, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration techniques and procedures.
Lead small groups focused on specific tasks or projects.
Assist the planning of activities by supporting the preparation of cost estimates or execution plans.
Perform (ELP) validations and sign pertinent documentations for certifications, annual validation, and procedures.
Learn and apply AI into our maintenance, design, and overall process, for maximum efficiency
To be successful in this position you will bring:
Journey-level proficiency in both DC Power and Modulator Systems
Advanced level proficiency in accelerator power systems and ability to perform systems maintenance, modification, and repair using specific equipment procedures and practices.
Must be able to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.
Extensive experience with test equipment such as oscilloscope, power meter, network/spectrum analyzer
Extensive experience with power sources equipment such as high voltage power supplies, power electronics.
Demonstrated ability to use SLAC Control Systems to assess Power Systems performance.
Good interpersonal skills and strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Experience working as part of a collaborative team.

Must possess a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record.

Note: This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.
The expected pay range for this position is $57.40 (Step 1) - $69.59 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
