The GIS Solution Engineer works within the Operations Technology portfolio and the business processes associated with the Operations systems. This role will understand and interpret electric utility needs as it relates to Grid Modernization, working with stakeholders to implement new technology solutions related to design, operation, maintenance, and reliability of the distribution system. The role will involve communications with numerous stakeholders involved in project management, planning and execution of projects within the Grid Modernization portfolio
Location: Hybrid; Woods Run, Pittsburgh, PA
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Solution, implement, and maintain GIS applications and solutions using various software and programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, C#, SQL).
Design, develop, and manage spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server Spatial, Oracle Spatial).
Create and maintain web-based GIS services (e.g., using ArcGIS API for JavaScript, ESRI Software framework, Leaflet, OpenLayers, GeoServer, ArcGIS Server).
Develop and implement geoprocessing workflows and automate GIS tasks using scripting and other tools.
Participate in solutioning and building integrations in conjunction with IT for GIS data and applications with other enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, CRM, asset management).
Perform data manipulation, spatial analysis, and cartographic design to create maps and visualizations.
Develop and maintain data quality control processes and ensure data accuracy and integrity.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in conjunction with IT related to GIS software, data, and applications.
Document processes, code, and system configurations.
Collaborate with GIS analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
Stay up to date with the latest GIS technologies, trends, and best practices.
Participate in the planning and design of GIS infrastructure and architecture.
Provide technical support and training to GIS users.
Contribute to technical specifications and project plans.

Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
3+ years of relevant experience in GIS development or related role
Strong programming skills in at least one relevant language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, C#).
Experience with spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server Spatial, Oracle Spatial) and SQL.
Experience developing web-based GIS applications using relevant APIs and frameworks (e.g., ArcGIS API for JavaScript, Leaflet, OpenLayers).
Familiarity with GIS software packages (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS).
Understanding of geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabases, GeoJSON, raster data).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with ESRI GIS software platform
Experience with ArcFM Utilities GIS software solution
Experience with OSI Monarch platform
Experience with Enterprise Work Management systems (Maximo, SAP etc.)
Experience with ArcGIS Model builder
Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office
Experience with ArcFM suite of applications
Experience working with & supporting generation of technical documentation including but not limited to the following

Scope
Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically accountable for managing one's own time and work flow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work activities are typically moderate to complex in nature requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base but has a solid foundation to act independently the majority of the time. Still draws on experts and managers when needed but less frequently.

Hybrid Work
Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
