Job Description
Minneapolis College is currently looking for two (2) Academic Coaches in our Academic Success Center. These are limited positions that will run through March 31st, 2027 with an estimated start date of December 1, 2025.
The Academic Coach is dedicated to enhancing student success and retention in developmental English courses through targeted academic coaching and supplemental instruction. This position will report to the Director of the Academic Success Center. It will also collaborate closely with a team of educational support professionals, such as tutoring coordinators, faculty teaching developmental English, and the Dean of Liberal Arts and Cultures. Academic coaches will utilize a progressive asset-based coaching model to provide students with consistent, timely, and accurate college curricular and policy information. Coaches will assist students in accessing the College resources available to them and using and interpreting college information throughout the coaching relationship. They will also provide supplemental instruction programming to support the learning outcomes of development English courses. This role is pivotal in implementing evidence-based best practices to foster academic skills, enhance student engagement and retention
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Serve as an Academic Coach for an assigned caseload of students in developmental writing courses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, communicating verbally during one-on-one appointments and in writing with students regarding their academic progress, monitoring their progress in assigned writing courses, and responding to academic alerts. All practices are rooted in asset-based approaches to help students navigate barriers to course success.
Develop and execute tailored supplemental instruction to enrich students' learning experience and encourage academic growth.
Monitor and regularly report on assigned student caseload to the Director of the Academic Success Center and the Dean of Liberal Arts and Cultures.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Salary Range:
$23.98 - $34.69/hourly - $50,070 - $72,433/Annually
Minimum Qualifications
Previous experience working with post-secondary students or students who are preparing for post-secondary enrollment, including but not limited to: tutoring, academic advising, career counseling, financial aid, admissions, records/registration, guidance counseling, teaching, or other support functions.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development.
Expert use of Microsoft Office.
Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and clarify problems or issues and to prepare and execute possible solutions under the direction of a supervisor.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including listening, speaking, writing, and the ability to deal tactfully with diverse populations in a positive, courteous, and helpful manner.
Demonstrated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency. Incorporates culturally responsive practices and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.
