The Chemical and Biological Sciences Division (CBS) is seeking a Research Technologist II. This position provides advanced level support synthetic biology and the creation of new bacterial strains. The job requires close collaboration with the group leader. The ability to develop and implement cloning and genomic modification strategies and to work with a variety of bacterial strains is a vital part of the job. Co-authorship on high quality scientific publications is expected, as is attending scientific conferences with oral presentations describing new results.
The incumbent should be familiar with molecular biology, synthetic biology approaches and in particular cloning techniques, how to work with a variety of bacteria and how to create and use promoter reporter constructs. A successful candidate will stay current on the latest developments in biotechnology, molecular biology and synthetic biology. The incumbent must be able to plan, initiate, and execute research activities in collaboration with the co-investigators responsible for synthetic biology developments. The ability to interact with experienced theoretical and experimental scientists is important to success in the position. The incumbent must possess excellent communication skills, both written and orally, to meet the needs of this position. The ability to write technical quarterly reports, draft papers for submission into peer-reviewed scientific journals, and give oral presentations to colleagues within Ames Laboratory or professional conferences is pertinent to the job.
This is a part-time 1-year term position.
