Position Description
The City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities are establishing an eligible list for Warehouse Technician. This list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur for a period of one year.
A Warehouse Technician performs manual, technical, and record-keeping work involved in the receipt, storage, maintenance and issuance of supplies, materials, and equipment; and updates and maintains a computerized inventory control system. The work requires the ability to manually lift, carry, push or pull heavy parts and equipment. Work also includes picking up materials, supplies, and related parts and equipment from suppliers. Some typing may be required. Subject to emergency callout during off duty hours.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Inspect and process items received against invoices, waybills and specifications to assure conformance with quality and quantity requirements.
Gather and fill orders by requisitions and work orders and issue stock items.
Stock and restock items and participate in physical inventory process.
Maintain and update computerized inventory control system.
Pick-up and deliver items.
Arrange and prepare items for packing and shipping.
Determine quantity or @type of goods to order.
Coordinate with various personnel, vendors, departments, outside agencies and organizations and customers.
Operate a variety of tools, equipment and machinery.
May perform other related incidental work.
Attend a variety of meetings.
Perform minor repairs on tools and equipment as assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent and two years' warehousing experience in the handling, record keeping and control of a wide variety of parts, materials, supplies and equipment.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid Washington State Driver's License at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter.
Valid Forklift Operator's certificate by completion of probation with maintenance thereafter.
Knowledge & Skills
Methods, techniques, terminology and procedures used in a warehouse facility for record keeping, inventory control and maintenance.
Perform basic business math.
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Perform minor repairs on tools and equipment.
Safely lift and handle heavy objects up to 75 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others using tact, patience and courtesy.
Safely operate a variety of warehousing tools, equipment and machinery.
Operate a personal computer and assigned application software.
Interpret computer printout data.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
Work independently with little direction.

Appointment is subject to passing a background check which includes a pre-employment medical exam and drug screen. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and WSCCCE Local 120. New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.
