Job Description
Huntington Ingalls Industries, Mission Technologies (HII-MT) is seeking a cybersecurity engineering intern with a solid technical foundation in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or embedded systems. This role involves hands-on support of cyber test and evaluation, with opportunities to work alongside engineers and analysts engaged in reverse engineering, software/firmware analysis, and proto@type development.

Essential Job Responsibilities
As a Cybersecurity Engineering Intern, you will assist with the reverse engineering of software, firmware, and hardware systems under the guidance of senior engineers, while supporting cyber testing and experimentation on both operational and proto@type platforms in a lab environment. You'll contribute to the identification and reporting of cyber risks and vulnerabilities in embedded, networked, and RF-connected systems. In addition, you will have opportunities to develop automation tools and analysis scripts (e.g., Python, Bash), participate in technical discussions, document findings, and work collaboratively with engineers and mentors to advance the team's mission.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent + Must be working towards a Bachelor's degree with up to 20% and 40% of the required credits completed.
Working towards degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
Strong interest in cybersecurity, software analysis, and/or embedded systems.
Familiarity with basic programming (e.g., Python, C, or C++) and command-line interfaces (Linux/Unix).
Interest in assembling/disassembling hardware or software systems for analysis and experimentation.
Willingness to work in a secure environment and follow established security procedures (e.g., restricted use of electronic devices, compliance with physical and cyber security protocols).
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance with enhanced security checks
Preferred Requirements
Exposure to reverse engineering tools and techniques, including Ghidra, IDA Pro, or Binary Ninja
Familiarity with operating system internals, including Linux, bootloaders, UEFI/BIOS, or embedded firmware.
A hacker mindset with interest in network protocols, penetration testing, and hands-on experimentation (e.g., Capture the Flag competitions).
Experience with low-level development or analysis, such as socket programming, kernel-mode code, or microcontrollers (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino).
Experience with scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell) and basic cryptography.
Comfortable analyzing machine-level artifacts such as assembly, binary formats, and hex dumps.
Ability to understand and navigate existing codebases, including interpreting software architecture, object-oriented design patterns, and system interactions; familiarity with design tools such as UML diagrams or software modeling techniques.
Familiarity with software engineering practices, including version control and documentation tools (e.g., GitLab, Confluence).
Ability to create and lead technical presentations for management and decision makers.
Humble confidence, with a desire to work in a team setting.
