Responsibilities The incumbent is a Laundry Worker assigned to the Distribution Section of the Textile Care Program and performs duties relative to the assembly and distribution of linen. This person is responsible for the safe performance of their assigned duties. Responsible for reporting any problems or unsafe working conditions to Distribution Section Supervisor. Major Duties: Collects soiled linen from user areas throughout the Medical Center and station. Collects soiled uniforms from user areas/locker rooms. Assembles clean linen onto exchange carts. Identifies categories of linen to ensure proper @types and quantities are assembled according to established quotas for delivery to user areas. Delivers clean linen exchange carts. Loads and unloads vehicles used in the transport and delivery of clean and soiled linen. Answers the telephone and receives inquiries and requests for linen services. Assembles and delivers special linen requests. Provides assistance at the employee uniform exchange window. Provides coverage/assistance in the Patient Effects and Lost and Found area as needed. Assists with the Semi-Annual Consolidated Linen Inventory by counting and recording the totals of the various linen items on hand throughout the Medical Center. Work Schedule: 6am to 2:30pm, Monday-Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD02611A Physical Requirements: The incumbent must have the ability to push linen carts weighing over 500 pounds routinely and lift bundles of linen weighing over 50 pounds. The position requires continuous walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, stamina and strength to perform heavy physical tasks over along period of time. Duties require flexible hand, arm and finger movements. The position may require loading and unloading vehicles used in the transport and delivery of clean and soiled linen. Working Conditions: Work is predominantly performed in a well-lighted temperature controlled building. When loading and unloading clean and soiled linen from vehicles the incumbent may be exposed to drafts from opened doors. When working in the Laundry production area incumbent may be exposed to moist and warm conditions and moderate noise levels. When working with clean linen the incumbent must be conscious of the need to maintain components to the highest aseptic level possible. The employee must use the assigned PPE items (gown & gloves i.e.) when working with soiled linens/textiles to protect the employee from any potential hazards. The incumbent may be exposed to odors related to blood and body fluids contained in soiled linen as well as occasional hazardous objects.
