The Success Advisor provides educational guidance to University students by recommending courses, majors and/or minors, on the basis of the personal, intellectual, academic, and professional goals articulated by said students.

The Success Advisor provides advisement and support for deposited and current students to help them onboard, establish a first term academic plan and understand University systems, policies, and processes to facilitate student success. Additionally, the Success Advisor supports the implementation of programs, outreach efforts and risk interventions in furtherance of the University's retention, persistence, and graduation goals. The Success Advisor monitors students to track advancement and improve student retention and persistence to graduation.

Core Job Duties:

Educates students about their academic requirements, research, and career opportunities within their chosen field. Employs the University Bulletin, the Cognate Search Engine, the Academic Calendar, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources to answer student inquiries and resolve problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites. Helps students identify and match their interests to cognates, additional majors, or degrees; connects students to appropriate individuals and Responsible Academic Units in other schools, colleges, or departments. Provides holistic advising to students on academic, personal, financial and health issues that guide students in making critical decisions. Where appropriate, refers students to other professional resources at the institution. Consults and interacts with parents and families of students, health professionals, faculty, case workers, and others, to ensure 360° support for students' academic goals to facilitate path to degree completion. Advises and facilitates resolution of student concerns and challenges related to academic policy, enrollment options, student registration, student accounts, financial aid, and health and wellness concerns . Advises students through the undergraduate student withdrawal process, maintaining the University's withdrawal database. Collaborates with and builds relationships across office and divisional lines to foster retention efforts and to increase the graduation rate. Represents the CSC at student events, including but not limited to RA Housing Fair, Spring Involvement Fair, Orientation, CaneFest and meetings. Engages in continuing in-service training related to academic information, advisement procedures and student retention and persistence initiatives. Initiates and maintains the records of all interactions with students and manages the software for documenting, scheduling, and recording all interactions. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Departmental Job Duties:

Responsible for student caseload with completing Road to UM tasks that include their onboarding checklist items, Road to UM modules and first term registration.

Responsible for monitoring and outreach to students with holds or to-do items on their Canelink account, students with financial aid pending items, and the three main melt factors of no housing, no registration and past due bill payment.

Responsible for minimizing melt with the deposited student population.

Responsible for providing in-person advising sessions for both incoming and continuing students

Supports all CSC efforts including but not limited to anti-melt efforts, and retention, persistence and graduation efforts as identified.

Will have the option to fill role of First Year Directions Facilitator if qualifications are met.

Responsible for at-risk student interventions for both new and continuing students, including but not limited to not course selected, inactive status, and readmission.

Responsible for supporting efforts of the GPAid program, from identifying eligible students, to advising sessions and end of program completion programs.

Responsible for supporting undergraduate students as they navigate challenges such as academic, financial, social, and personal that can negatively impact the students' progress to degree completion.

Responsible for conducting exit interviews with all withdrawing undergraduate students

Must be well versed in campus policies, procedures and resources that can positively impact undergraduate student success.

Familiarity with Navigate, Salesforce, Canelink and Blackboard is a plus.

Requirements:

Bachelor's preferred

Minimum of 1 year of experience in advising, counseling and/or customer service is preferred
