The High Voltage Electrical Distribution Systems Design and Release (HV EDS D&R) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and release of the High Voltage (HV) wiring harnesses under their responsibility. This role involves a comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles, high voltage safety, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams from concept to production. The HV EDS D&R Engineer will also be responsible for driving design improvements that lead to increased quality and optimizations in cost and weight. The ideal candidate will ensure that all high voltage designs meet performance, cost, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements for the product.
What you'll do...
Lead the design, development, validation, and release of High Voltage (HV) wiring harnesses and associated components, ensuring compliance with program cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing targets.
Drive design improvements to enhance product quality, reduce manufacturing costs, and optimize system weight, utilizing benchmarking and generating proposals to minimize giveaway cost and reduce total part count.
Capable of designing and update wiring changes in 3DX/Catia per all Ford requirements and systems schematics.
Apply Robustness Engineering Disciplines (e.g., Quality history, P-Diagram, FMEA) to ensure compliance to requirements and specifications.
Lead Technical Design Reviews (TDRs) and participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and presenting design proposals to stakeholders.
Manage the release of parts in systems like FEDEBOM and WERS through the product life cycle, and support Change Control Meetings.
Analyze and break down Program Direction Letter and Trim Spiders to accurately account for HV EDS content.
Perform Harness Complexity Analysis and engineering cost estimates.
Define and verify engineering proto@type requirements at the part level.
Develop and execute test plans, including identifying required validation, durability, and functional tests as per requirements and specifications (e.g., DVP / FEDE DVP dashboard). This includes bench testing, vehicle integration testing, functional validation, performance testing, and safety validation of high voltage systems and components, with a focus on HV wiring harnesses. Analyze test data and implement design improvements as needed.
Lead issue resolution in Digital and Build Phases of Product Development for HV EDS.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical design, battery systems, powertrain, controls, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality to ensure seamless integration, optimal packaging, and design for manufacturability (DFM) of HV EDS.
Manage supplier relationships for high voltage components and HV wiring harnesses, ensuring adherence to specifications, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 26262, UL, SAE, IEC), safety regulations, and company-specific requirements for high voltage systems.
Support proto@type and production build events for forward model programs, including parts implementation/sign-off in manufacturing and assembly plants and assisting quality issue resolution in all milestones.
Support quality and manufacturing quality forums as required.
Comply with GPDS deliverables (applicable to EDS) for each milestone.
Submit invention disclosures, process improvements, and best practices.
Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in high voltage electrical systems and component design.Comply with training as outlined in calendar year objectives.
You'll have...
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
5+ years of automotive EDS experience from early development through launch.
General knowledge of vehicle systems and electronic/mechanical interfaces.
Electrical and mechanical hardware engineering experience.
Exceptionally strong communication, organization, and program management skills.
Excellent program management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Familiarity with engineering tools and disciplines (DFMEA, DVP&R, P-diagram).
Fluent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote).
Ability to interpret 2D and 3D CAD drawings and schematics.
Experience with supplier management and negotiations.
Requirements engineering experience - hardware and software specification interpretation.
General understanding of material properties and mass production processes.
Six Sigma mindset.
Problem-solving skills: 8D's, 5-Whys.
Even better, you may have...
Master's degree in engineering.
Experience with automotive PPAP process.
Knowledge of injection-molded components.
Knowledge of manufacturing quality documentation (PFMEA, control plans, line flow charts).
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
Familiarity with systems like TeamCenter, CATIA, and Global Integrator
Component testing experience (bench/dyno/vehicle).
Automotive software implementation experience.
Working knowledge of commercially available AI tools and resources.
Working knowledge of Atlassian JIRA.
