Job Description:
The College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking an Academic Advisor II to join the Department of Kinesiology. This position provides academic advising and student support to undergraduate students while contributing to recruitment, orientation, teaching, and administrative efforts within the department.
As an Advisor in Kinesiology, you will work closely with students from their first year through graduation, helping them chart a successful path through their academic journey. You will also collaborate with faculty, staff, and peer mentors to foster student success and build a supportive learning community. This role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys guiding students, strengthening academic programs, and contributing to a dynamic, student-focused department.
Key Responsibilities
Advise undergraduate students in course selection, registration, and academic planning, and assist with degree audits.
Counsel students experiencing academic concerns, recommend success strategies, and connect them with campus resources.
Implement retention projects, including academic interventions and student success initiatives.
Meet with prospective students and families and provide information on opportunities at ISU.
Participate in recruitment events such as daily visits, Experience Iowa State, and outreach programs.
Teach the Kinesiology Orientation-Learning Community course.
Co-coordinate the Learning Community, including hiring and training peer mentors.
Provide guidance on academic policies and procedures, preparing related forms and documentation.
Serve on departmental and college committees and assist with special projects related to advising, student development, and recruitment.
In this role, you will be part of the second-largest department on campus, working with a wide range of students who are eager to get involved and make the most of their ISU experience. You'll have the chance to build meaningful relationships and help students shape their academic and professional paths. You will also join a collaborative team of advisors who share ideas, support one another, and work together to provide the best possible guidance.
