Job Summary: Under general supervision, provides working level professional support in transportation planning activities, including multimodal short- and long-range transportation plans and geographic planning analyses.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities :
Under general supervision provides working level professional support in the planning and analysis of the statewide transportation system. Duties may include:
· Analyzes, interprets, and applies federal and state regulations, laws, and policies.
· Writes and reviews technical documents.
· Manages consultant transportation planning contracts.
· Demonstrates the ability to stay organized and meet deadlines.
· Analyzes existing financial data, collect relevant data, and assess transportation projects' impacts on the work program and project recommendations.
· Leads coordination with other offices to ensure data accuracy.
· Conducts research regarding state and federal programs and coordinate with GDOT offices and external partners across the state.
· Reviews existing plans and programs for relevance to ongoing Office of Planning efforts.
· Develops Planning level cost estimates.
· Presents technical presentations to stakeholders.
· Performs other transportation-planning-related job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications.
Entry Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in transportation-related work; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Transport Planning Spec 1 (TRP060) or position equivalent.
Agency Specific Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree for an accredited college or university in one of the following fields: transportation planning, rural/urban planning, regional planning, urban studies, policy studies, geography, statistics, economics, or a closely related field.
OR
· Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Public Policy, International Affairs and other related fields with course work experience (or a minor) in any of the planning fields. (If selected for the position, you will be required to provide an original college transcript.
· Ability to gather, interpret, and summarize information for the purpose of writing technical reports/documents, working level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
· Proficient with MS PowerPoint and MS Excel advanced formulas, such as VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables.
· Understanding of transportation funding sources, particularly federal and state programs.
· Ability to work well with others to achieve team/organizational goals.
· Possesses strong oral communication skills with the ability to present ideas and facts to individuals or groups effectively.
· Manages priorities, setting well-defined and realistic personal goals.
· Strong customer orientation.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Agency Preferred Qualifications:
· Master's degree in transportation planning, rural/urban planning, regional planning, urban studies, policy studies, geography, statistics, economics, or a closely related field.
· Two years of experience in managing or working on highway transportation planning related projects and/or studies.
· Experience analyzing, interpreting, and /or applying federal or state regulations.
· Experience and/or knowledge of transportation funding sources, particularly federal and state programs.
· Experience with ArcGIS software.

Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee's favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
