Summary Of Position

Oversees operations in an assigned area, including supervision of staff and implementation and administration of all radio station activities, programs, and/or services. Plans, develops, and implements organizational initiatives with significant operational scope and complexity. Interprets and assists in the development of, or develops, regulations, policies, etc. for the guidance of other employees or the public.

Supervises staff as they engage in programming, radio operations, production, engineering, underwriting, marketing, events, educational services and general office administration.

Position Information

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Supervises staff; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of assigned tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves/disapproves requests for paid leaves; interviews candidates for employment and makes recommendations for hire; evaluates employee work performance; receives and responds to grievances; provides assistance with the development of unit work procedures and policies.

Reviews recommendations by lower-level staff regarding department's policies and procedures as they relate to completion of work and/or provision of services; prepares recommendations to supervisor regarding the policies and procedures as it relates to completion of work and/or provision of services.

Utilizes reports and other information/documentation in strategic, and regular, planning of the assigned area; prepares reports, recommendations, and other information/documentation to assist in strategic planning of the assigned area.??

Supervises the day-to-day functionality and assumes general oversight of the assigned area's operations and services as related to any assigned program, initiative, or objective. Directs daily tasks related to the full scope of a department's overall programs and/or services.

Develops and administers annual budget consisting of multiple funding sources and multiple expense accounts.

Ensures compliance with government and licensee regulations, including maintaining Federal Communications Commission (FCC), mandated public files and FCC broadcasting regulations, and FCC Equal Employment Opportunity rules.

Develops program initiatives, based on knowledge of audience taste and cultural trends, and oversees general programming development.

Discusses strategies with marketing personnel to promote programs to potential audience members.

Serves as primary liaison to the public, licensee administration and board of trustees, advisory board, FCC, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and other professional and community organizations.

Discusses plans with underwriting personnel to secure and maintain underwriting from foundation and corporate sources.

Confers with licensee senior management to discuss station policy and administrative procedures.

Represents station in national and state broadcasting entities.

Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; participates in staff development activities; attends meetings, conferences, and other events. Monitors industry trends, technology, and the station's competitive environment.

Understands principles of public radio fundraising, including direct mail, pledge drives, major giving, planned giving, and grants. Takes active role in on-air pledge drives.

Seeks out and writes federal, state, and local grant applications, monitoring compliance.

Works with YSU administration and YSU Foundation on major donor cultivation.

Discusses radio service development and technical transitions with appropriate personnel.
