POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is a senior-level engineer that will lead the Electrical Engineering department. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-motivated individual with excellent leadership, technical, management, and communication skills. The candidate will be capable of defining project requirements in coordination with clients and stakeholders including owners, construction contractors, and regulatory officials, and will work closely with other design professionals both inside and outside the firm. Work will include a wide variety of electrical engineering projects including power generation, medium and low voltage distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, overcurrent protection, branch circuits, power panels, motor control centers, interior and exterior lighting systems, grounding and bonding systems, cathodic protection, and lightning protection systems. The candidate will oversee and perform electrical engineering tasks to ensure client satisfaction and technical excellence in all deliverables.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform technical and management oversight for the completion of high-quality design deliverables including special studies, planning and programming documents, basis of design, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and schedules for electrical engineering projects or electrical project elements.
Ensure strict compliance with the firm's Design Quality Control plan.
Ensure timely delivery of engineering services to internal and external clients on or ahead of the established schedule.
Manage work assignments, resources, scheduling, and supervision of assigned personnel.
Perform overall project management as assigned, to include client relations and management of contracts, subcontracts, scope, schedule, budget, quality, and personnel resources. Work with the client and accounting staff to invoice and obtain prompt payment for services.
Participate in design reviews and ensure all client comments are fully addressed.
Perform electrical engineering tasks including calculations and development of electrical utility plans, single line diagrams, power and lighting plans, and equipment schedules.
Maintain and grow Electrical Engineering department technical capabilities, professional registrations and certifications, and geographical positioning consistent with the firm's growth strategy.
Ensure assigned personnel have a professional development plan that includes education, training, professional registration, certifications, and work experience consistent with the firm's growth strategy.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consult with and assist coworker staff as needed .
Ensure professional registrations are up to date.
Interface both in person and remotely (videoconferencing, phone, etc.).
Plan for and meet utilization goals as assigned.
Review invoices and send to Accounting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
15 years of Electrical Engineering experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure and ability to become licensed in additional states as needed.
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability and desire to develop business by participating in proposals.
Familiar with DoD Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) / Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
Proficient with AutoDesk Revit.
Proficient with electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, SKM).
Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow procedures and schedules, and prioritize multiple tasks for highly technically capable individuals in a complex matrix environment.
Special Requirements:
Ability to obtain security clearance.
Ability to travel up to 25% of time.
Willing to work overtime as circumstances warrant.
Able to work effectively in an office environment, but also able to work safely in the field - e.g., walk-downs and inspections at construction projects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience delivering engineering designs and analysis for federal government clients.
Experience with power generation, distributed generation, small modular reactors, and/or microgrids.
Experience with electrical control systems (e.g., SCADA).
Experience performing commissioning of electrical systems.
Experience with earned value reporting and baseline management.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Familiar with SpecsIntact and Master Specs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position is primarily sedentary in nature but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. The work may involve exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily in typical office environment but may require periodic visits to construction sites requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and an understanding of associated hazards.
