Job Overview

This position is intended for a college student (ideally a 2nd or 3rd year candidate) to learn best practices in manufacturing fabrication and machining techniques. The specific responsibilities include assistance with part design, metrology, equipment maintenance, and materials inventory management for the Engineering Technical Center's machine shop. The candidate will spend approximately 1/3 of their time in computer applications, (solid modeling, project coordination, data measurement, etc.), and 2/3 of their work time performing hands-on shop related work, (machine setup, stock preparation, tool programming, etc.). Most of this role will be spent within the machining, molding, and plastics processing groups but may also encompass other engineering groups through certain projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

Perform preventative maintenance on various machines and equipment

Work directly with toolmaker on the design and manufacture of plastic injection molds

Inspect finished parts and setup various machines, tools, and stocks

Assemble, seal, and transport plastic molds, components, and steel tool inserts

Design parts in CAD for assemblies and create CAM programs for 3-axis mill, based on shop and site needs.

The candidate is willing to learn and work on the following machines/equipment: manual mill, CNC/manual lathe, EDMs (Sinker and Wire), injection molders, extrusion blow molders, injection-stretch blow molders, CMM, and optical comparator

Qualifications

Working capibility in a 3D CAD Software (Solidworks preferred)

Some knowledge of CAM software or G-Code Programming (MasterCAM preferred).

Some knowledge of machining and manufacturing equipment (manual milling, CNC milling, lathe, plastic molding equipment, etc.).

Ability to be dynamic and able to provide support and willingness to learn across all facets of site operations

Good communication skills and work ethic

Basic computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Partial completion of Engineering Coursework (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or other related engineering major).
