Project Overview:
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world's largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state.
The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitri?cation technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitri?cation, High-Level Waste Vitri?cation and Analytical Laboratory as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.
The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and AECOM. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project. This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will assist in interpreting and integrating health and safety requirements into project planning, design, construction, and operations. You will provide input and technical guidance, assist with communications, track performance trends, and conduct inspections and monitoring. Your work will help keep employees safe by contributing to continuous improvement of project health and safety.? #LI-EH1
Major Responsibilities:
Assists execution of the safety component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
Assists development and implementation of Safety and Health Management Plans, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other groups to assure that safety and health requirements are integrated within project planning and execution.
Interprets safety and health requirements and provides guidance on risk assessment and ESH program execution.
Researches issues and regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
Provides support and guidance for safety studies, risk assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
Participates in emergency response and incident investigation and resolution.
Interfaces and communicates with stakeholders and helps resolve their concerns.
Participates in meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
Conducts ESH inspections and monitoring to identify hazards and risks, evaluate controls and corrective actions, and assess compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education. Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)
Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns-including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
Basic knowledge of US government S&H standards, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Proficient ability with software applications, creating spreadsheets with mathematical functions, and developing reports and presentations.
Knowledge of safety inspections/assessment processes during construction work activities.
Knowledge of hazardous materials, physical risk exposures, and Personal Protective Equipment standards.
Prior experience working in a government, nuclear, chemical processing, petroleum refining, industrial, or EPC environments.
Experience in safety engineering, health physics, industrial hygiene, or environmental compliance activities.
Knowledge of construction planning, estimating, procedures, and subcontractors or consultants.
Related experience includes, but is not limited to, working in conjunction with Safety and Health, Safety Committees, and/or VPP.
Possess a Board-Certified Safety Professional and/ or accredited safety certification.
