Utility Services Specialist I

The purpose of this job is to perform a variety of tasks to assist administration of city-wide water and energy conservation initiatives. Provides onsite verification for utility programs, energy assessments, public education, and community outreach to all ages on topics related to water and energy conservation and utility operations.

Essential Functions:

Conducts home evaluations focused on residential water and energy conservation

Performs onsite verifications of equipment and materials for compliance with utility programs.

Develops and presents educational and customer outreach programs, and associated customer-focused utility initiatives.

Acts as utility liaison to local organizations operating utility-funded programs.

Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience(

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered):

Education and Experience

Associate's Degree or 2 years of college in Energy, Education, Communication, Construction, Building Science, General Science, or related field.

1 year of experience in building science, construction, or outreach/education.

Licenses or Certifications

Valid drivers license.

Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst certification and/or BPI Healthy Homes Principles certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

Building science and HVAC systems.

Common business software applications such as Microsoft Office.

Home energy modeling software.

Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of building trades.

Safety standards and precautions related to working with electricity.

Skill in:

Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.

Organizing and managing time effectively.

Developing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Ability to:

Recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

Apply logic and reasoning to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Provide high levels of effective customer service.

Maintain accurate records

Use a computer, software, phone, and related office equipment.

Focus on tasks.

Ability to work on-call and respond within 30 minutes at all hours of the day/night.
