About this Job
The Division of Administrative (DAL) is Louisiana's centralized administrative hearings panel. When disputes arise between government agencies and those they regulate, due process hearings should be fair and impartial, convenient to citizens, and conducted professionally. DAL is independent from the agencies served, preserving fairness and impartiality in the right to administrative review.
The Area of Law Specialist/Attorney Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a group of Attorney 4 (Administrative Law Judges), overseeing an area of law (AOL), and managing a caseload.
This announcement is limited to current employees of the Division of Administrative Law only.
The ideal candidate should possess strong communication and leadership skills with a proven ability to lead effective teams and solve complex problems.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law plus four years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Provides direct supervision over Administrative Law Judges (ALJs).
Approves schedules, addresses issues with time and attendance, and approves leave requests.
Signs PES documents and conducts planning sessions.
Participates in interview and hiring process of new ALJs. Makes hiring recommendations to Deputy General Counsel (DGC).
Develops and maintains materials for new ALJ training. Participate in the training of new ALJs, as assigned, and provide effective feedback on progress of new ALJs.
Identifies ALJs who require additional training in the area of law (AOL) supervised. Independently addresses training needs of an ALJ without prior approval of DGC. Notifies DGC when this occurs or when formal discipline is required.
Independently documents performance concerns of ALJs supervised or ALJs under their AOL. Notifies DGC if concern should be addressed formally. If the AOL Specialist does not directly supervise the ALJ, the AOL Specialist reports the performance concern to the DGC.
Reviews decisions, orders, and conference reports as instructed by the DGC. Maintains a list of issues that may require further training and identify any areas where ALJs seem to be deciding the same legal issue differently.
Meets regularly with other AOL Specialists and DGC. Provides guidance or instruction at the monthly meeting relative to a specific area of law. All information presented must be prior approved by the DGC.
Responsible for effective communication concerning the AOL supervised, with the direct approval of the DGC, including instructions that need to be disseminated to the ALJs, reported cases of note, update to the law, rules or regulations.
Cooperates with and assist the DGCs in ensuring that unresolved issues are addressed.
Provides memos and opinions, if called upon by the DGC, General Counsel or Director, on the impact of proposed legislation to DAL.
