The position joins the effort to ensure a safer Louisiana through in depth collaboration and development of Department Regulations within the Louisiana Department of Corrections. The attorney will articulate through Department Regulations an in depth understanding of safe and secure incarceration, effective probation and parole supervision, effective rehabilitative programs and assistance to victims of crimes.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
This is an Attorney position supporting the General Counsel and the Division of Policy Development and Review within the Louisiana Department of Corrections. The position will ensure Department Regulations conform to state and federal laws and standards regarding prison operations at all levels, and enhance the department's mission of upholding justice, public safety, and legal compliance. The candidate would work independently.
Provide successful advice and representation to DOC relative to prisoner and employee litigation, employee disciplinary matters, agency rule promulgation, prisoner and employee grievances, contracts, bids, sentence computation, statutory interpretation, ethics, HIPAA compliance, PREA compliance, and legislation affecting DOC.
Ensure Department Regulations conform to state and national standards
Interpret and monitor Department Regulations, offender rules and posted policies and other Department publications
Review individual prison policy to maintain compliance with Department Regulations
Research new methods and national best practices in state and federal corrections, e.g. American Correctional Association Standards, Performance Based Measures Systems and Prison Rape Elimination Act, etc.

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: PROBATION, or Promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana State EMPLOYEE
Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
Location: This position is located in the Office of the Secretary within the office of the Executive Counsel.
Career Progression Group: This position may be filled as an Attorney 1, 2, 3 or 4. Salary depends on level of experience.
