Description of Unit:
Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHHIP) is an acute care psychiatric hospital that provides comprehensive psychiatric treatment services medical services by multidisciplinary treatment teams. This includes: 24 hour nursing care and assessment; psychiatric intervention and evaluation; psychological services; psycho-social
services; Occupational Therapy; Educational and Vocational Rehabilitation services; Recreational Therapy; and other services required of an acute care psychiatric hospital licensed in the state of Colorado. CMHHIP provides psychiatric services for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Under the direction of the Program Support Administrator and Director, the Volunteer Services Coordinator collaborates with all departments to support the delivery of volunteer services throughout the hospital, and will oversee all volunteer services throughout the hospital. Services will include coordinating spiritual care services, veteran services, and all other volunteer needs. They will provide guidance through coordination with their supervisory chain of command and other departments receiving/requesting volunteer services to facilitate compliance with regulatory agencies, standards of care and hospital policy and procedures. Responds and plans for volunteer services based on the hospital's needs and demands. Responds to and assists with requests regarding data for these programs. Duties in this position include:
Volunteer Coordination
Communicates with all departments of the organization to identify available opportunities and needs for volunteers to enhance program/service delivery
Works with social, civic, religious, and local organizations to develop partnerships, where appropriate to develop and/or utilize volunteers
Recruits volunteer staff to fit these roles using a variety of resources and techniques
Procures appropriate religious/spiritual individuals to provide worship and faith services, religious rites and rituals, memorial services, and religious education for patients from diverse faith traditions
Procures requested religious items, and coordinates delivery to patients in the event that a spiritual care professional is not available to deliver the requested items
Develops and implement effective strategies to recruit the right volunteers with the right skills
Gathers information about each volunteer's skills, availability, and goals; matches volunteers with appropriate opportunities based on this data
Develops and implement goals and objectives for the volunteer program which reflect the mission of the organization
Develops, administers, and reviews policies and procedures which guide the volunteer programs and services, and reflect the overall values of the organization
Drafts, maintains, and publishes guidelines, best practices, and procedures for the volunteer program
Recommends and develops ongoing volunteer utilization
Organization of Events/Activities
Plans and organizes events, including site selection, logistical arrangements, purchasing supplies, promoting events, scheduling and being the primary point of contact for the event
Plans, coordinates, and implements formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization
Plans and organizes, and coordinates community outreach activities to assist in promoting the volunteer service program
Computer Database and Records Implementation/Management
Develops and manages the volunteer staff database/records, including: volunteer information, availability, skills, schedules, department placement, and volunteer hours
Develops and administers forms and records to assist in documenting the volunteer activities. Maintains files, records, applications, and other data concerning the volunteer program
Guidance and Mentorship
Develop and implement an intake and interview protocol for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualification, and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the organization
Orients volunteers to increase their understanding of the organization, its clients, its services and the role and responsibilities of volunteers
Ensures that volunteers are given appropriate training to be successful in their positions
Ensures that volunteer check-in procedures are followed, and records of volunteer hours are maintained according to established procedures
Schedules and assigns volunteers to appropriate departments, supervisors or mentors
Identifies volunteer assignments that provide meaningful work for volunteers and write the volunteer position descriptions in consultation with staff as appropriate
Communicates with volunteers to ensure placement is a good fit for individuals skills and goals
Ensures that volunteers receive the appropriate level of supervision
Establishes and implement a process for evaluating the contribution of individual volunteers and the program, and implement improvements as necessary
Ensures that volunteers work in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment
Provides communication to volunteers regarding information related to the facility, values of CDHS and CMHHIP, and the purpose of the needed volunteer work
Sets up and attends volunteer meetings
Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Experience Only:
Six (6) yearsof relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal tosix (6) years
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven customer service experience

possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have the ability to maintain confidentiality

Computer skills experience to support administrative functions
Willingness to be proactive in daily work
Conditions of Employment:
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
