Program Overview:
The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student's area of focus.
Over the course of the semester, interns will gain exposure to senior leaders, attend meetings, work alongside mentors, and receive valuable performance feedback.
Position Summary:
The Sallie Mae Legal Department represents the legal interests of the SLM Corporation, Sallie Mae Bank and all of their affiliates, subsidiaries, and business units. The Legal Department's overall goal is to provide legal, practical, and business advice that facilitates the enterprise's business objectives and minimizes risk. This Legal Internship will primarily focus efforts within two groups of the Legal Department: Corporate Finance and Third Party Contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Corporate Finance legal team in connection with securitizations, loan sales and other capital markets matters and strategic projects
Assist in preparing and reviewing contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and other documents in connection with third party management processes
Draft correspondence and written memoranda
Conduct legal research
Attend internal meetings and assist with ad hoc projects stemming from meetings
Education:
Currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school
Level: Graduate (Law School)
Open to students who have completed their first or second year of law school.
Experience:
Available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills with individuals at all levels.
Excellent administrative skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and web-based applications.
Strong follow through and multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail.
Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H-1B status) now or in the future is required.
