The Director, Government Pricing will lead the development, execution, and oversight of government pricing-related operations and reporting across the U.S. business. This individual will serve as a strategic partner to Finance, Market Access, Legal, and Commercial teams, ensuring compliance with evolving federal and state pricing regulations while maximizing net revenue and supporting business planning and decision-making. This role requires a deep understanding of U.S. government pricing programs, and the pharmaceutical reimbursement landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end government pricing reporting and operations, including oversight of government pricing calculations, compliance, and reporting for programs such as AMP, BP, 340B/PHS, FSS/VA, ASP, NFAMP, FCP, IFF, and URA.
Oversee the management of GP models, including calculation, validation, documentation, and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual GP reports to CMS, VA/DoD, and state Medicaid agencies, and any programs requiring price reporting, per legislative requirements
Provide government pricing impact assessments to aid in the strategic direction on GTN modeling, forecasting, accruals, bid assessments, commercial contracting, new product launches, and scenario planning to inform financial planning and product pricing decisions.
Partner cross-functionally with Commercial, Market Access, Trade, Global Finance, and Legal teams to ensure alignment and compliance.
Guide the design and enhancement of automation tools and dashboards to streamline data aggregation, analytics, and executive reporting for government pricing
Serve as a key contributor in the assessment of new legislation (e.g., Inflation Reduction Act), including government pricing impact assessments.
In partnership with Market Access, represent Government Pricing in strategic pricing committees, providing insight into the financial impact of pricing and contract decisions.
Oversee the development and maintenance of SOPs, assumptions documentation, and procedural controls to ensure audit readiness and policy alignment and serve as SME for government pricing during audits and inquiries.
Manage reviews and approvals of monthly accruals, reconciliations, utilization files (e.g., rebates, 340B claims), and reporting packages to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Stay abreast of industry trends, policy changes, and regulatory updates; evaluate their potential impact on government pricing, GTN impact, pricing strategy, and financial forecasts.
Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits related to government pricing.
Oversee vendors and consultants providing government pricing support or software solutions.
Champion cross-functional initiatives related to FMV analysis, bona fide service fees, state transparency reporting, and other pricing-related special projects.
Ensure compliance with laws governing government programs are within Ascendis' written policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MHA, Finance, or related field) strongly preferred.
Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical finance, pricing, market access, or government programs
Deep expertise in U.S. Federal and State Pricing Programs (Medicaid, Medicare, VA/DoD, PHS/340B) and related regulations.
Expertise in GP reporting systems and tools (e.g., Revitas, ModelN, iCyte, Flex, etc.)
Strong command of GTN forecasting, accrual methodology, and related analytics and reporting.
Prior experience interfacing with CMS, VA, and/or external auditors.
Experience with product launches and lifecycle pricing strategy in heavily contracted therapeutic areas
Familiarity with Medicaid Supplemental Rebates and State Price Transparency Laws.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders
Proven ability to manage compliance risk in a dynamic and regulated environment
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
High attention to detail, with a strategic mindset and ability to see the big picture
The estimated salary range for this position is $215,000-$230,000/DOE. Actual salary determination is dependent on a variety of factors some of which include: experience, qualifications, and geographic location. This position may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus or an incentive compensation plan (eligibility varies based on role and position level), discretionary stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and a comprehensive benefits package.
