The Opportunity
This is a critical role within the Risk Finance department and supports activities related to Ally's largest estimate on the balance sheet - the allowance for credit losses. The Accountant II is an important position on the team, with responsibility over the preparation of monthly accounting responsibilities, including the preparation of journal entries and components of Ally's financial statements. The Accountant II will also supporting the forecasting process for the allowance and provision, preparing presentations to senior management and the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) Committee, and partnering with Finance and Risk business partners to understand changes in the allowance and provision expense that could have upstream and downstream impacts. This role provides broad exposure to various finance and risk roles company-wide.
The Work Itself
Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and year-end financial statements (10-Q/10-K).
Assist with the accounting close process (e.g., prepare journal entries, financial statement account analysis, etc.).
Assist with ensuring the completeness and accuracy of key metrics related to Net Charge-Offs and Allowance for Credit Losses.
Manage and improve the processes around the assigned activities.
Assist with ERP/software transformation initiatives.
Assist in the preparation process leading up to the quarterly ACL Committee meetings which includes working with risk business partners to obtain data and prepare materials.
Maintain robust documentation which underlines the ACL Committee governance process and ensure SOX controls are strictly adhered to.
Evaluate and communicate expected impacts to the allowance associated with new products and acquisitions.
Utilize SAP, Workday, and OneStream to support internal and external reporting requirements.
Support qualitative improvements in control operations to reduce / eliminate control deficiencies.
Assist in analytical accounting support to internal business partners and the resolution of accounting problems through the appropriate channels.
The Skills You Bring
Bachelor's degree required (Accounting major preferred). CPA (or equivalent) and /or MBA preferred.
1+ year of work experience in Accounting or related field with general accounting and/or functional skills for area of expertise.
Workday ERP experience preferred.
General accounting and/or functional skills for area of expertise.
Exhibit a strong work ethic and high degree of self-motivation.
Proficient computer skills including MS Office applications, including Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.) and PowerPoint.
High level of written and oral communication skills, including preparing management presentations.
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment.
Exhibit a strong work ethic and high degree of self-motivation.
Ability to work with limited supervision while applying previous experience to execute moderately complex tasks.
Experience and comfort with direct communication to business partners.

An individual's position in the range is determined by the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, certification(s), training, and additional qualifications. We review internal pay, the competitive market, and business environment prior to extending an offer.
