At the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs, our mission is committed to advocating for the needs and rights of the elderly, improving the quality of life for its seniors, promoting public awareness, intervention in exploitation and abuse, building partnerships with communities, and supporting intergenerational activities.
We are seeking professionals who can apply their knowledge of adult protective services and social work, with the ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings. The role demands in-depth knowledge of laws and regulations regarding vulnerable adult abuse, social work principles, and issues affecting the elderly and persons with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of social services experience; OR
Six years of full-time work experience plus one year of social services experience; OR
A bachelor's degree plus one year of social services experience; OR
A master's degree in social work, a social science, education, counseling or vocational rehabilitation.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Serves as an intake worker and/or conducts investigations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and extortion under close supervision and with support from higher level adult protection personnel.
Obtains identifying information, provides information on services provided by the agency and makes referrals when reports do not meet the requirement for investigation. Determines allegation @types, risk of harm, and priority levels.
Conducts investigations of alleged abuse, neglect, exploitation, and the extortion of adults in accordance with agency policy and state law.
Assesses home environment, living situation, functional and mental capacity and other factors to determine the risk of harm to the adult and the need for immediate intervention.
Provides those services required for the adult's immediate safety; i.e., a referral to law enforcement or 911, or the adult's relocation to a safe environment.
Obtains services for the adult in the least restrictive setting available that will provide the adult with needed care, treatment, and services sufficient to protect the adult from harm and allow the adult to function as independently as possible.
Maintains highly confidential case files in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Works with coroners, social services agencies, law enforcement, district attorneys, and legal staff to initiate actions necessary to protect the adult.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as Adult Protection Specialist 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Compensation: The referenced position is eligible for premium pay for only hours worked:
$2/hour Hazardous Duty-Premium Pay
$1/hour Tiered Longevity- Premium Pay
The maximum amount listed for this job title is the maximum salary a person can make in the position. It is not the maximum amount that we are allowed to pay a new hire.
Extensive travel is required within the domiciled parishes of Caddo, Bossier, Claiborne, Webster, Bienville, Red River, Sabine, De Soto, and Natchitoches; periodic travel to other regions may be required.
Driving, travel, and overtime will be required as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
