Summary You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT) in the NAVY FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES @ REGIONAL FIRE DIRECTORATE of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY NORFOLK NSY. Responsibilities You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and rescue vehicles. You will perform hazard and risk assessment techniques in completing initial incident analysis. You will initiate established medical protocols in providing basic life support. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications FOR GS 08 - Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Responding to emergency incidents and directing fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical resource (EMS) in immediate mitigation actions. 2) Leading/managing personnel in the delivery of basic life support and/or advanced life support including supervision of ground ambulance transportation service;3) Demonstrated history of leading and working as member of a team to accomplish mission objectives; 4) Demonstrated history of sound tactical decision making and good judgment; 6) Demonstrated history of effective, professional, and outgoing customer service and interaction with the command, the general public and stakeholders; 7) Demonstrated experience delivering accurate, effective, and professional oral and written communications, particularly documentation of internal written communications, briefs, procedures, explanatory papers, correspondence, and fire/EMS reports. FOR GS 07 - Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying active and potential fire hazards and providing structural firefighting IAW the Job Performance Requirements of the current edition of NFPA 1001; 2) Employing hazard and risk assessment techniques to complete incident analysis and effectively mitigate hazardous materials emergencies at the Operations level; 3) Providing emergency medical care at the BLS level to the full range of medical and trauma patients including managing respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask resuscitation, and automatic external defibrillation (AED); 4) Performing driver/operator level maintenance and inspections and operating a variety of complex firefighting equipment including pumpers and/or aerial vehicles; and 5) Completing a variety of record keeping tasks using paper and computer based systems including patient care reports, equipment testing and maintenance records, NFIRS reports, vehicle and equipment inspection forms, pre-fire plans, etc. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position The following certifications must have been awarded by DOD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
