Operations Manager Position Purpose/Summary Responsible for providing
leadership and direction to ensure that Thomas J. O?Connor Animal
Control & Adoption Center core operational functions are achieved at the
highest standard in accordance with the City of Springfield as well as
local, state, and federal regulations. Effectively oversee and manage
both Animal Control and Adoption Center departments. Works directly with
the Executive Director to ensure fiscal responsibility of the
organization and to formulate and implement operational policies,
procedures, and strategic goals. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Management experience in an animal control, animal shelter, or similar
organization Knowledge of city, state, and federal laws as they pertain
to companion animals Proven ability to develop staff Experience in
building and leading effective teams Excellent interpersonal
communication skills Ability to effectively communicate in writing
Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail Ability to
utilize effective problem solving/decision making skills Proficiency in
Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Experience
developing and monitoring budgets Ability and skill to deal with unruly,
vicious, and dangerous animals in a humane manner. Good oral and written
communication skills, ability to deal diplomatically with the political
system and the public. Possess the ability to handle a stressful work
load. Computer program literacy is essential to meeting the requirements
of the position. Education and Experience Bachelor\'s degree from an
accredited college or university with major course work in business
administration or a related field AND four (4) years of experience in a
supervisor role with an emphasis on animal care and control; OR, any
equivalent combination of eight (8) years. Must attend the Massachusetts
Animal Control Institutes Core Competencies Training within one year of
employment.
