What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
We are seeking an experienced Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) inspector for the Maintenance Programs group. This position will be a growth opportunity in support the Above Ground Storage Tank Program and will report to the Maintenance and Site Services Maintenance Programs (MSS-MP) Group Lead. The selected candidate must have a strong mechanical background and will perform monthly and annual inspections on ASTs at the Laboratory.
Engineering Technologist 2 ($94,500 - $154,600)
As an AST inspector for MSS, you will work directly with the FOD's to ensure the associated ASTs are inspected as required per SP001, NMAC 20.5 as well any other applicable state and or federal codes and standards. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing the inspections, generating the reports and working with the appropriate personnel to correct any identified deficiencies to ensure the ASTs comply with the state and federal codes and standards.
This position will support the inspection of various styles and configurations of ASTs. The Inspector will conduct inspections encompassing New Mexico State registered ASTs and Non-registered ASTs annually and monthly, to ensure code compliance, leak free operation, adequate normal/emergency venting, preventative maintenance, and follow up on recommended repairs. The inspector will manage the inspection records through PC/Tablet based software.
Engineering Technologist 3 ($104,100 - $172,200)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will:
Schedule inspections and necessary equipment with asset owners.
Maintain work execution metrics to track the progress of the AST program.
Communicate with work groups outside of MSS-MP to streamline inspection execution.
Maintain/update equipment database as the program grows.
Provide SME level review of Operation and Maintenance/Preventative Maintenance documents.
Interface with engineering design review, applications of engineering methods and technology aided engineering tools.
Leverage experience erecting, inspecting, and repair/alteration of ASTs.
Provide leadership/mentorship to level II AST inspectors.
Provide support to our Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspection programs.
Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Ability to work within a team-based environment and experience collaborating with team members to support project goals.
Strong communication skills to include providing appropriate inspection follow up and recommendations.
Proficiency with personal computers and common software platforms, such as Microsoft Office, and records management experience.
Demonstrated ability to work independently on assignments.
Working Experience with ASTs and Fixed Equipment.
Additional Job Requirements for Engineering Technologist 3:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Demonstrated experience in design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance of ASTs.
Demonstrated experience of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, II, V, VIII, and IX.
Demonstrated experience of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors NB-23 code, and standards related to design, construction, installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, repair, alteration, and re-rating of boilers and pressure vessels, and piping systems.
Demonstrated experience with API 650, 510, 571, 653, 651, 652, and 579 related to ASTs and fixed equipment.
Working knowledge of non-destructive testing techniques and welding processes for ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections V and IX.
Training/Certifications: STI SP001 certification is highly desired.
Education/Experience at Engineering Technologist 2 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Engineering Technologist 3 level: Position requires a Bachelor' Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Standing, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, and stooping.
Desired Qualifications:
Certifications in: API 653, ASNT-TC 1A LEVEL II, NM A/B/C/ Operator.
Knowledge of DOE and LANL standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance.
At least one year of experience working in a nuclear facility.
Awareness of LANL Quality Policies and Procedures.
Experience using Plant Condition Management Software (PCMS)
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
