POSITION PURPOSE

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the development and management of the members of the Finance Department. Leading by example, the Accounting Manager will ensure that the department runs smoothly through the completion of all required processes, including, but not limited to, reporting on income, expense, assets, and liability, reconciling general ledger (GL) accounts, filing reports in a timely manner, and conforming to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Manage accounting functions to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow, cost management, financial reporting and recordkeeping, and general ledgers (GL).

Implement policies and procedures for the finance department and ensure that they reflect current regulations and are communicated to and implemented by subordinates.

Be responsible for GL reconciliation, examination of financial accounts, and preparation of journal entries. Provide end-of-month close and produce monthly financial statements.

Ensure that all activities of the department are in accordance with GAAP and that the accounting records are maintained accurately and in compliance with laws and regulations.

Maintain a highly motivated, well-trained staff, evaluating their performance on a regular basis. Resolve any team member questions or conflicts.

Develop and implement processes to streamline credit union accounting procedures.

Provide support for examiner and auditor requests.

Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills, sound judgement, and promote accountability

Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or equivalent experience

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:

2 years management experience preferred

Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office, especially Excel

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Exhibit strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Ability to design spreadsheets for data analysis

Willing to work with minimal or no supervision.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

Dedicated work ethic with personal and professional integrity

Ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks, meeting deadlines

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.

Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES:

Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH:

Sedentary work: sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)

WORKING CONDITIONS

No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (a typical office environment)

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to understand the borrower's needs and develop and implement a loan program for those particular needs.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY:

Ability to perform basic math functions and calculations, including determining interest rates and loan payback amounts.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Ability to speak fluently to any and all members, business partners, and potential clients, and to communicate effectively in front of an audience when necessary.
