Overview
UIC Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to support field and office construction activities by assisting with project coordination, documentation, scheduling, procurement, and quality control efforts. This role will work closely with superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure successful project execution. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, technically proficient, and capable of performing in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
Establish and maintain contract document logs to ensure accurate project records.
Prepare and present status reports for RFIs, submittals, and other key project documents.
Develop clear and comprehensive scopes of work for bid packages.
Issue Requests for Quotations and follow up with trade contractors to ensure timely responses.
Document field quality control activities in a timely and organized manner.
Prepare change management documentation, including estimates and cost reports.
Maintain project quality files and documentation systems in accordance with company standards.
Support and promote organizational change initiatives by suggesting improvements and adapting to new processes.
Understand and prioritize customer goals, demonstrating urgency and delivering value.
Build and maintain industry relationships to support business development efforts for UIC Construction.
Adhere to the company's Code of Conduct in all work activities.
Create and maintain construction schedules using critical path method (CPM) techniques.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
One year of experience in heavy civil or vertical construction or two or more years of training in engineering related field such as civil engineering or construction management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Knowledge of construction materials and practices.
Familiarity with Submittal Registers and Submittal Process.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage stress and perform well in high-pressure or challenging environments.
Working knowledge of engineering and construction processes, with familiarity in industry standards and practices.
Familiarity with software commonly used in engineering and construction environments.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze and organize complex information, including plan layouts, material logistics, and jobsite productivity.
Effective communication across all organizational levels, including clients and vendors.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency with Bluebeam, P6, and Procore.
Experience with Timberline Project Management software.
Physical and Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to read text on a computer screen and in hard copy, stand or sit, talk, and hear.
The employee is frequently required to enter information into computers via a keyboard or other peripheral device.
Exposure to moderate levels of noise in a well-lit, well-ventilated and moderately paced environment.
Continuously required to sit, hear and/or respond to verbal/audio cues, perform repetitive motions of hands and wrists, and read computer screen.
Continuously required to stand or walk.
Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, bend, or reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to push, pull and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
The work environment is that of a typical office setting.
Work is typically 40-50 hours a week from the Anchorage Office.
In a large building or jobsite office setting.
Often the location will be on a construction site.
