Description of Job
Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) is responsible for programs, manufacturing goods and providing services to thousands of government and/or non-profit customers in Colorado. Business is operated in the manufacturing and service related fields.
Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) is a cash funded, self supporting division of the Colorado Department of Corrections. This position may be eliminated at any time if funding is discontinued. The Department may be able to assist with transferring you to a position that is either comparable or below the classification that you were hired for, but if there is not a vacant position it may result in termination of employment. If the position is eliminated it may require you to relocate to another correctional facility or geographical location based on the need of the CDOC. Also, you must meet minimum qualifications for any vacant positions in order to be considered for a transfer. CCi provides services to many government and non profit organizations with an emphasis on excellent customer service.
This Correctional Support Trades Supervisor (CSTS II) is a supervisor for Surplus Property Supervisor II in Denver, CO; position supervises staff and inmates in operations and production work flow; ensures safety and security and supervises inmate work crews. Ensures comprehensive training for inmates in all aspects of these fields in preparation for community reentry. Promotes the CDOC Mission, Vision and Values while ensuring safe, compliant and efficient operations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provides supervision over staff and offenders involved with various light construction, cabinetry, electrical, customer services, and highway crew projects;
Assigns projects, coordinates schedules, recommends corrective/disciplinary actions, resolves informal grievances, and makes hiring/termination recommendations;
Creates Performance plans, reviews, and evaluations of subordinate staff;
Oversees the successful completion of projects by reading and interpreting blueprints for concrete, framing, and other construction work;
Directs daily activities, promoting positive performance; ensuring compliance with health and safety standards;
Inspects and approves work ensuring compliance with building codes and zoning laws;
Solicits work projects from various agencies and understands job needs, prepares bids, orders materials, schedules work and maintains records to reflect the profitability of work units;
Develops budgets to meet daily operational needs and maintains accurate cost accounting of work performed and inventory controls;
Completes and creates documents and reports by gathering information and inputting information into electronic systems; ensures standard compliance.
Ensures the safety and security of the public, facility staff, and offenders by evaluating work conditions; instructing staff and offenders in proper safety methods.
Provides custody, surveillance, supervisory, transport, shakedown and count duties; ensures proper key, tool, equipment, and chemical control; ensures compliance of all policy/procedural guidelines; enforces safety/security procedures by conducting inspections, worksite searches and monitoring the work environment.
This position may be utilized to cover and support any of the Denver CCi work areas.

Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) years of employment experience in one of the following construction trades, warehouse operations,grounds maintenance, and oversight of labor crews. **Experience must be clearly described within the work experience section of your application to meet this requirement.
Grounds Maintenance- includes planning, installation and/or maintenance of automated irrigation systems, comprehensive lawn care and a variety of other exterior work such as concrete work, asphalt patching, fence building and/or snow removal.

Applicant may meet the four (5) year requirement with a combination of work experience as follows:
A minimum of three (3) years of employment experience as described above may be combined with correctional experience. (If you are using correctional experience, be sure to include details in the 'Work Experience' section of the application)
** Correctional experience must besecurity related duties where primary responsibilities throughout a shift, include monitoring and controlling inmate movement throughout their daily schedules, discovering and preventing contraband and responding to emergencies; ensuring proper key/tool/chemical/equipment control, use, storage and accountability; advising inmates in matters concerning work, programs, appropriate behavior and decision making in order to prepare them for successful community re-entry.
Substitutions:
Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or degree through an accredited, non- correspondence vocational or trade school that resulted in demonstrated competencies equivalent to those learned through the required experience may substitute for experience on a year for year basis. Completion of formal education at an accredited, non-correspondence trade/vocational school, college or university in Construction Management, Project Management or a closely related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
