Summary You will serve as an ENGINEER OR SCIENTIST in the PLATFORM INTEGRITY DEPT (C/60), MATERIALS & MANUFACTURNG TECH DIV (C/61), NON METALLIC MATL'S R&E BRANCH (C/617) of CARDEROCK DIV NS. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15. Responsibilities You will be responsible for guiding the development of polymeric rubber materials and material processing technologies that have application for ship, submarine, combatant craft, and uncrewed systems. You will serve as lead engineer or scientist for polymeric material property modeling, polymeric material measurement methodologies, and polymeric material development. You will serve as the Navy's expert and Team Lead in the subject area of polymeric materials and their integration in Navy ship, submarine, and combatant craft platforms. You will develop and lead a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians that executes scientific and engineering projects to improve polymeric rubber materials for Navy assets. You will apply knowledge of engineering theories, concepts, and procedures related to non-metallic polymeric and rubber material. You will plan, organize, and coordinate the various phases of the project assignment to be accomplished. You will carry full responsibilities for polymeric material applied research; T and E of equipment and systems; experimental development of instrumentation, techniques, processes, materials and equipment and/or In-service engineering functions. You will document work including preparation of proposals, technical reports, specifications, work plans, or project reviews. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
