This position supervises the Agriculture Marketing and Development Division (AMDD) International Marketing Section and Operations Team. The position directs the development and implementation of statewide, agriculture-related international trade policies, plans and program initiatives and represents the section's priorities to the Legislature and stakeholders. This position will strengthen Minnesota's economy and support agricultural companies and producers by encouraging, promoting and facilitating international sales by Minnesota companies.
Other responsibilities include hiring and supervising professional, technical and clerical staff; managing budgets and spending plans; overseeing division operations; and recommending policies programs and projects to support division goals.
This position is located in St. Paul and may have the ability to telework part of the time.
Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
Facilitating international trade of food and agricultural products;
International agricultural and food business sales or marketing; and/or,
Business consulting or providing of technical assistance related to international trade of agricultural and food products.
A Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business administration, marketing, communications, public policy, food science, international relations, or a related discipline will substitute for one (1) year of experience. A Master's degree in agriculture, business administration, marketing, communications, public policy, food science, international relations, or a related discipline will substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience.
Additional requirements include:
Previous supervisory, lead worker, or leadership experience which may include leadership development programs such as the Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) or Senior Leadership Institute (SLI).
Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review and must obtain and maintain a valid passport and be able to travel up to 20% of time.
Experience with agricultural and food product distribution, economics, foreign exchange issues, tariffs, trade policy, pricing, promotional patterns, and new product development.
Experience leading foreign agriculture-based trade missions, international trade shows, and similar events and to host representatives/guests of the state.
Previous supervisory, lead worker, or and implement proper protocol, and develop a rapport with clients and collaborating partners.

Preferred Qualifications
An advanced degree in agriculture, business administration, marketing, communications, public policy, food science, international relations, or a related discipline
Experience working with agricultural organizations and leaders.
Experience managing federal grants or other federal funds.
Experience managing program budgets.
Comprehensive technical knowledge and practical experience in the agricultural and food industry sectors including established contacts in the areas of financing, banking, translation, duties, quotas, tariffs and trade agreements, labeling, standards, licensing, etc.
Experience in market research, knowledge of reliable data sources and ability to accurately gather and interpret economic data, market and industry trends.
Experience with state and/or federal policies and procedures relevant to global agricultural market development.
