Summary The Maintenance Mechanic Leader will supervise and lead employees within the Facilities Management Service. The incumbent operates, maintains and repairs two or more utility systems in a modern energy plant, consisting of boilers, air conditioning/chiller units, refrigeration, graphic control and other pertinent equipment. Responsibilities Duties are but not limited to: Install valves, steam traps, regulators, floats, switches, relays, and automatic timers. Perform inspections, preventative, and corrective maintenance of utility systems. Troubleshooting and repair of plant support equipment. Use of pressure/temperature analyzer. Use of combustion analyzer. Troubleshooting and repair of steam plant equipment. Operate utility system support systems and equipment. Operate a modern steam plant. Chemistry control of cooling tower water (open loop). Install valves, steam traps, regulators, floats, switches, relays, and automatic timers. Computer control of power boilers. Computer control of industrial chillers. Computer control of fire alarm/prevention system. Read and interpret building plans, shop drawings, and schematics. Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes. Plan and schedule work for the group with, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space, equipment and supplies for proper performance of duties. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am- 3:30pm (possible shift coverage) Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic Leader/PD410900 Physical Requirements: Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and where equipment worked on is hard to reach. Work requires considerable overhead work that must be done from extension ladders, staging, forklifts, existing structural support beams. Frequently lifts and carries items that weighs up to 50 pounds and occasionally handles heavier items. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. Exposed to the possibility of burns from steam and high temperature hot water, Protective clothing and breathing apparatus are provided per codes and regulations. Expereince includes: possess the ability to lead a team of Pipefitters, Maintenance Workers and Utility Systems Operators to Safely accomplish skilled trade and labor work. Maintain a current knowledge of trade practices, and answer questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Possess good understanding of codes and engineering standards needed to perform all HVAC-R, mechanical, electronic industrial controls, electrical, plumbing, piping, boiler, medical gas and back-flow protection; Assist with overseeing the operation of maintenance, repair, and or replacement of all equipment and systems; reads blueprints and technically complicated equipment diagrams to determine what work aids are required and understand the sequence of installations.
