Summary This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. Responsibilities The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Section Small Shop Chief no more than 25% of the time over journeyman mechanics and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTY 1: Performs small shop duties over the journey-level mechanics in the section no more than 25% of the time. DUTY 2: Modifies and adjusts parts, components, accessories, etc, on assigned aircraft. DUTY 3: Performs work related to troubleshooting malfunctioning engines. DUTY 4: Performs tasks involving the disassembly of aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and/or accessories. DUTY 5: Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Knowledge of aircraft engine hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Skill in using various @types of general and special purpose measuring instruments, tools, and test equipment. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, and technical orders, etc. Ability to diagnose aircraft engine, component, and/or subassembly malfunctions and determine methods of repair. Knowledge of aircraft engine test cell procedures and the electrical, fluid (fuel and hydraulic), and air systems of aircraft engines. Ability to disassemble aircraft engines and components in proper sequence. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its certification procedures. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time and attendance, and budgeting instructions, guidelines, and requirements. Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30% of total responsibilities.
