The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Division of Public Health has an opening for a Technical Records Specialist 1 in the Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics office in downtown Boise. The Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics is the official custodian of confidential certificates of birth, death, stillbirth, miscarriage, marriage and divorce events that occur in the State of Idaho.

The main duties of this position on the Vital Records Legal Amendments team includes making changes to Idaho certificates as allowed by Idaho law and administrative rule, processing certificate applications, and providing telephone assistance. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This announcement will be used to fill vacancies at the Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics only. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Review customer requests for certificate changes and respond with written instructions and appropriate forms.
Review legal documents such as affidavits, acknowledgments and court orders for completeness.
Make changes to Idaho certificates as allowed by law and rule.
Monitor and make appropriate changes to the electronic records system.
Provide general information and instructions for requesting copies of certificates.
Explain Bureau policies and procedures to customers and business partners.
Make outbound calls to customers, attorneys, and personnel at funeral homes and hospitals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Experience monitoring a records system to identify and correct errors. Typically gained by one year of full-time work experience.
Experience researching a variety of sources to resolve problems. Typically gained by one year of full-time work experience.
Experience interpreting, explaining and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments. These complex decisions could have affected the social or economic well-being of others or would result in a service or action being denied. Typically gained by one year of work experience.
Experience entering and retrieving data using a computerized records system. Typically gained by six months of work experience.
Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants.
Demonstrated work experience obtaining and safeguarding confidential information. Typically gained by 6 months of work experience assisting the public.
Demonstrated work experience working/relating with diverse groups of people. Typically gained by 6 months of volunteer or work experience assisting the public.
Demonstrated time management and communication skills. Typically gained by 6 months working in an office or educational setting.
