Junior Network Administrator (STX-DOP)

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Human Resources Information Technology (H.R.I.T.), the Junior Network Administrator function is to ensure network connectivity for all users on the local area network and wide area network for the department. This work involves the implementation of a variety of network services or applications such as Domain Name System, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, and Windows Internet Name System, Hyper-V, and VMware changes as directed by the Chief of H.R.I.S. Work also involves the preparation of network topology changes relating to the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol Stack, LAN/WAN design, installation, configuration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs network design and capacity planning for modern LAN and WAN environments.

Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.

Provides second-level technical support and emergency support related to network and system operations.

Diagnoses problems with network equipment and performs equipment repair or upgrades.

Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network-connected hardware, software, and peripheral devices.

Works in close cooperation with other IT professionals, including System Administrators, IT Security, Classroom/Lab Design and Support, and Customer Service.

Orders software, hardware, and other supplies as required for the institutional network.

Trains/mentor network technicians and other I.T. related support staff.

Trains Human Resources personnel about the use and processes of the Enterprise Resource Planning System.

Executes canned or customized reports from the H.R.I.T application as needed.

Provides general support to the staff at the Division of Personnel for all user, hardware, and software related concerns.

Performs other related duties as assigned
