A Day in the Life
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is a key Operations representative for the Needles engineering team within the General Surgical Products Focus Factory of Medtronic. The ME will be responsible for completing tasks which support the day-to-day Operations deliverables. General responsibilities include manufacturing process evaluation, mechanical product troubleshooting and support of in-house manufacturing products and processes. Conduct engineering studies to support process validation and contribute to maximizing production performance. Provide engineering support for equipment development, assembly equipment retrofit projects, new equipment procurement, assembly methods and process validation of new and existing products. Collaborate on project teams to develop high quality, high reliability and highly manufacturable medical devices for Medtronic. Work under the direction of Principal Level Engineer and/or Engineering Manager in a fast-paced collaborative environment supporting program initiatives and compliant with company best practices.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Team with manufacturing and quality personnel on a daily basis to review / disposition production defects and provides potential process and/or equipment corrective actions to assure production schedules and quality expectations are met.
Review product field returns to determine root cause of potential manufacturing defects then develop and implement effective corrective actions.
Provide support to implement standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department, including storing of equipment documentation, spare computer components, and system backups.
Applies knowledge of manufacturing processes, machine design, and components to provide technical support to troubleshoot, maintain, and modify automated and manual equipment.
Lead and/or support root cause analysis activities to address quality non-conformances.
Create engineering change notices, Bill of Material updates, and performance general ERP support items.
Create and execute engineering studies, DOE and validation documentation for accuracy, statistical validity, and compliance.
Served as lead engineer for equipment design specifications, request for quotes, vendor selection activities, equipment design review, FAT, SAT, and validation activities.
Collaborate with toolmakers to determine critical measurements defining tooling failure, enabling data-driven improvements to enhance tooling performance and reliability.
Lead Capacity Expansion and Process Improvement Projects to increase yields, reduce scrap, and Improve Product Quality
Incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
Provide technical support to production support to set up, trouble shoot, repair, and monitor metal forming related processes & equipment.
Optimize existing equipment to address EHS and ergonomics concerns, address non-conformances, improve product quality, improve OEE, cycle time and throughput.
Organizes the coordination of activities with equipment vendors and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
Manage capital projects budgets, timeline and forecast.
Mentor and assist junior engineers in their projects.
Up to 10% travel required.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Requires a Baccalaureate degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
BS Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
Experience in machine design, repair, and troubleshooting.
Experience in validation (IQ/OQ/MSA/PQ) in a medical device environment.
Experience in manual and automated assembly equipment.
Knowledge of GD&T and Problem-solving tools: MINITAB, SIX SIGMA, DOE, GR&R, CAPA, DMAIC
Electrical/Controls Automation Experience is a Plus
Experience with developing technical solutions to solve complex problems
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Solid presentation and computer skills (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Projects/AutoCad/Creo, etc.)
Project management skills to keep projects on track
Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment
Excellent Interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work individually or as part of a team

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$100,000.00 - $150,000.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
