The Medical Assistant performs both clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Responsibilities include measuring and documenting vital signs, assisting providers, and providing telephone and clerical support.

Responsibilities

Measure and document patients' vital signs.

Assist providers with patient preparation, examination, and education.

Provide clerical support and serve as a backup for the Patient Services Coordinator or other team members as needed.

Manage variable and unpredictable patient volume throughout the workday.

Participate in daily team huddles to review and prepare for scheduled patient visits.

Screen all patients for preventative care needs, ongoing support, barriers to care, safety concerns, and potential fall risk.

Conduct motivational interviews that include patient screening and/or coaching on disease management ability, motivation to change, learning care needs, and community outreach needs.

Identify potential behavioral health needs of patients using appropriate screening tools and notify providers of findings.

Document clinically related activities accurately in the patient's EMR and perform required patient follow-up.

Collect and process specimens, complete requisitions, and document in logbooks or other applicable forms/records.

Essential Skills

1-2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.

Proficiency in medical assisting, patient care, and phlebotomy.

Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Knowledge of manual blood pressure measurement.

Experience with electronic health records.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

CMA or RMA certification (preferred, not required).

Familiarity with EMR systems (preferred, not required).

Work Environment

This position is located in an ambulatory care center within a hospital, specifically in the Vascular Surgery and Centers. One Medical Assistant will be stationed in the south tower and another in the north tower. The work hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:30pm. The role requires being on your feet and attending to a busy environment, with roughly 70 to 100 patients in Vascular and over 200 in Cardiac. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
