Overall Summary:
This position will play a key role in leading and driving the advancement of next-generation utility infrastructure. This role requires expertise in Grid Modernization technologies such as advanced grid communications (e.g., Private LTE), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) 2.0, advanced analytics, cybersecurity, and transactive energy systems. The successful candidate will contribute to transformative projects that shape the future of the grid while collaborating with industry organizations. Job Responsibilities:
Manage, pilot, and assess emerging Grid Modernization technologies and align benefits to the organization through close collaboration with stakeholders
Manage complex grid modernization projects from conception through implementation, ensuring alignment with utility operational requirements and regulatory standards
Manage federally funded grid technology projects, including the development required internal and external reports
Support the design, implementation and optimization of DERMS to enable seamless integration of renewable energy sources, energy storage, and electrification programs
Investigate creative telecommunications solutions for critical utility communications infrastructure
Support the design and implementation of advanced data analytics platforms to support real-time grid operations and decision-making
Collaborate with third-party vendors, national laboratories, and other external entities on research initiatives and technology validation programs
Lead cross-functional teams including engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders
Author comprehensive technical reports, white papers, and research publications
Develop training materials and conduct knowledge transfer sessions for internal teams and external partners
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend strategic investments in grid modernization solutions
Contribute to long-term strategic planning for Grid Modernization initiatives

Education / Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
7+ years with a PE or 10+ years of experience
Demonstrated experience working directly with electric utilities in operational or consulting capacities
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) license or Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience with cybersecurity frameworks for operational technology (OT) systems
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (FERC, state utility commissions) affecting grid modernization
Knowledge of utility interconnection processes
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and IoT technologies for utility applications
Experience with project management methodologies
Published research in peer-reviewed journals or experience presenting at conferences
Strong background in data analytics for grid applications
Experience with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) 2.0 and Behind-the-Meter (BTM) integration
Knowledge of utility operations, including generation, transmission, distribution, and customer programs
Familiarity with grid modernization standards (e.g., IEEE 1547, IEEE 2030.5, IEC 61850, etc.)

Scope
Primary Focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Accountable for managing one's own time and work flow and leads projects and/or large project steps. Work is complex in nature requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Acts independently the majority of the time, requiring guidance in only complex situations. Has well established capabilities, acts as a resource to less experienced staff on moderately complex issues.
Decision Impact
Problems and issues faced are vague and require analysis of multiple sources of information for a solution. Draws on significant past experience to perform role. Accountable for direct level of reasoning and decision making.
Hybrid Work
Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
Storm Roles
All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset.
