The Grants Accountant provides accounting, budget and other administrative support for Program Managers, under the direction of the Sr. Manager, Grants & Funding Compliance. Responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing financial transactions for school readiness programs, tracking revenues and expenditures, and preparing journal entries.
Essential Functions:
Act as primary fiscal contact for assigned grant partners, understand specific grant requirements, ensuring compliance on contract conditions.
Coordinate budgeting process for assigned grants. Setup projects in Oracle and monitor activity against budget. Resolve accounting and reporting issues as necessary.
Coordinate with Sr. Manager - Grants & Funding Compliance, Grant Program Mangers and Grant Specialists to ensure transactions are properly recorded and agree to the grant/contract agreement. Review invoices and provide account codes for proper project accounting.
Provide financial expertise to grant program staff to analyze program fiscal feasibility, develop grant applications and implement awarded grants.
Prepare monthly grant-related journal entries in both general ledger and projects module.
Prepare internal budget and quarterly forecasts of grant-related expenses. Perform variance analysis as necessary.
Perform ad-hoc financial analysis in response to requests or to provide support to assigned programs.
Prepare necessary schedules and documentation for year-end external audit, subrecipient monitoring, or program audits as assigned by management.
Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential.
Recommend grant fiscal policies and procedures; develop written guidelines and training materials to ensure compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.
Meet or exceed the customer's (including granting agencies) expectations by understanding, anticipating and meeting customer needs. Exhibit proactive communication; act and think with customers in mind and ensure communication is clear and follow-up is delivered

Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a Bachelor's degree in business/finance (or equivalent education and experience) with emphasis in accounting, is required. Degree(s) must be from a credible college or university.
Master's Degree is a plus but not required
Experience:
Minimum 2-3 years experience in public accounting or in a corporate accounting position.
Oracle and governmental accounting experience is a plus.
Skills & Abilities (i.e. technical, organizations, knowledge, etc.):
Good knowledge of US GAAP.
Strong analytical/quantitative skills, attention to accuracy and detail.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience with other Microsoft Office tools.
Excellent customer service and follow-up skills with both internal and external customers.
Capable of working with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
Effective communication skills, written, verbal and interpersonal.
Proficient time management, ability to meet strict deadlines, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation based on position, education and experience. Bi-weekly paid.
$67-75,000 base salary
This position is also eligible for our Support Central bonus program which is based on annual achievement of company performance.
