Multilingual Experiences - Walmart Translation Platform

As a Senior Manager of the Walmart Translation Platform data science team, you will lead a team of talented data scientists focused on building intelligent multilingual systems for translation, localization, and personalization at scale. You'll serve as a strategic thought partner to business, product, and engineering leadership, while staying hands-on guiding the development and deployment of machine learning systems including LLMs and neural machine translation (NMT) models.
What you'll do:
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of data scientists to design, build, and evaluate AI/ML systems for translation, localization, @contextualization and personalization use-cases.
Drive the roadmap for multilingual AI and NLP innovation. Guide solution design across the ML lifecycle, from ideation and research to production deployment.
Partner with business, product, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, robust, and high-quality AI/ML solutions that power global customer experiences.
Promote scientific rigor and excellence in experimentation. Enable team members to publish, patent, or present impactful work.
Stay ahead of industry trends in AI, machine learning, and information retrieval to continuously improve Walmart's translation and localization capabilities.
What you'll bring:
Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
6+ years of experience designing and deploying end-to-end machine learning solutions in large-scale, consumer-facing environments.
2+ years of experience leading and mentoring data scientists.
Demonstrated expertise in NLP, machine translation, and multilingual search or personalization systems.
Strong background in deep learning, including transformer-based architectures (eg. BERT, T5) and large language models (LLMs).
Excellent communication skills to clearly explain technical concepts and influence stakeholders across technical and business teams.
Fluency in English, and proficiency in an additional language (Spanish or French preferred).

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00

Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3: 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
