Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Interpret student diagnostic assessments and documentation for cognitive, psychological and physical disorders to determine appropriate tutoring and tutorial strategies. Provide direct executive functioning support to students along with assistance in navigating tutoring, academic support, and other campus resources.

Work under the direction of the Accommodations Support Coordinator to provide guidance and share information on the academic support resources available to students in the Tutoring and Academic Support Center (TASC), especially those requiring accommodations.

Review student diagnostic assessments and documentation for cognitive, psychological and physical disorders. Assessments and documentation include, but are not limited to, student\'s Individual Educational Plan, psychological evaluation, medical and psychologist reports, etc.

Review COD records and meet with students to determine appropriate tutoring and academic support strategies for the student. Assess whether the student qualifies for certain accommodations within the Tutoring and Academic support Center.

Provide direct support to students with disabilities through executive function coaching and navigational assistance to maximize student success and ensure greater awareness of TASC and other campus resources.

Intervene and respond to emotionally escalated student interactions within the tutoring and academic assistance space as needed.

Serve as a consultant to TASC coordinators, staff, faculty and administrators on how to optimally provide tutorial assistance to students with cognitive, psychological and physical disabilities.

Develop and present student success workshops designed to support students\' executive functioning skills and orient students to TASC and other campus resources.

Communicate to students and others in a classroom workshop or class visit format, the @type and level of academic assistance available to meet student needs.

Consult with other COD departments, area high school transition programs, and community agencies or resources to establish best practices for assisting students with academic support needs.

Conduct orientation sessions for tutors, clarifying the role of the Learning Support Specialist, the departmental process for working with students with disabilities, and an overview of online and departmental disability-related resources.

Share knowledge of COD resources and community services, making recommendations and referrals when appropriate.

Coordinate utilization of appropriate adaptive equipment as well as other departmental and COD resources related to academic support; make recommendations to staff and students on using these tools to augment tutoring.

Adhere to TASC policies, procedures and Code of Ethics.

Maintain records applicable to the position and to departmental needs.

Conduct training and informational sessions for program staff and administrators on disabilities, neurodivergence, and accessibility, tutorial strategies and techniques, and information on the disabilities community at large.

Qualifications:

Education

Bachelors degree in Special Education, Counseling, Social Work

or related field required. Masters degree in Special Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field preferred. Related certifications preferred.

Experience

Two years experience working with individuals with disabilities required. Two years in a college environment preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Proficiency in written and spoken English required.

Previous experience reviewing and interpreting IEPs and 504 plans and neuropsychological evaluations required.

Experience with LD diagnostic testing instruments such as Woodcock-Johnson, Wechsler, and Kaufman (both cognitive ability and academic achievement) is preferred.

Relevant experience providing executive functioning support or coaching preferred.
