Position Description The mission of the Anoka County Finance department is to enrich our community by providing quality services and assuring financial integrity. The Finance department has two openings for an Accountant, who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include preparing financial records to ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded, and maintenance of financial records ensuring compliance with governmental standards and internal policies and procedures. This posting will be used to fill current and future vacancies. These are full-time, exempt, on-site, positions. First Interviews will begin the week of 07/14/25, and second interviews the week of 07/21/25 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. Pay & Benefits Salary: $64,480 to $77,355 ($31.00 to $37.19 per hour). 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $64,480 to $90,230 ($31.00 to $43.38 per hour). 24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays. Advancement/professional development opportunities. Work Location This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303. This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office after the successful completion of a probationary period. Expected work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Accountant. Prepare and submit required reports to federal and state agencies for grants, payroll, taxes, or other reports as identified. Maintain financial records and ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded. Ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Monitor grant budgets and track expenditures to ensure compliance with grant requirements. Prepare accounting transactions and schedules while ensuring all transactions follow GAAP/GASB standards. Analyze trends in all areas of revenue, expenses, payroll, or grants. Ensure the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management. Consider the need for new or changed controls. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience. In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field. Possess a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) license. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial systems and county organization and operation and ability to apply that knowledge. Ability to analyze, develop and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and practices. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Standard office environment. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds. Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work. Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs. Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment. Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed.
