Purpose of the Position
The Director, Inclusion and Strategic Communications will develop and implement an enterprise-wide strategy to amplify Flynn's mission, support its core values, and drive employee engagement. This pivotal role will champion Flynn's commitment to fostering an inclusive, engaging, and high-performing organizational culture. As the steward of our inclusion strategy and communications narrative, this leader will not only help shape the employee experience but also elevate our employer brand and external reputation. They will play a critical role in aligning messaging, driving engagement, and amplifying the voices and stories that define who we are and aspire to be.
Specifically, this role will have three primary functions:
(1) Lead Flynn's enterprise-wide Culture & Inclusion strategy, aligning with business objectives and commitments.
(2) Develop and implement a comprehensive, integrated internal communications and employee engagement strategy.
(3) Elevate Flynn's employer brand and Flynn's executive team through strategic external communications.
The successful candidate will have a track record of leading an integrated communications and employee engagement strategy across digital, social, and in-person channels. A consultative partner to the executive team and our operators, the Director, Inclusion and Strategic Communications, will be adept at building relationships across the organization. Key Responsibilities
The Director, Inclusion and Strategic Communications, will be responsible for driving an integrated inclusion and communications strategy to reach key stakeholders including employees, executives, franchisees, and the public. Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Inclusion
Lead Flynn's enterprise-wide Culture & Inclusion strategy, aligning with business objectives and commitments.
Contribute to creating and promoting a culture of inclusion, commitment, accountability, and equity, leveraging diversity best practices, research, and benchmark data.
Design and deploy methods that help monitor organizational climate (e.g., pulse surveys, listening sessions, annual inclusion survey, focus groups) to assess culture health and identify opportunities for improvement.
Direct Flynn's Premier Networks (Employee Resource Groups), including strategy, programming, governance, and executive engagement.
Drive the execution and evolution of Cultural Awareness campaigns, partnering with brands and senior leaders.
Lead and support Flynn's Mentor Program, including quarterly mentee onboarding, mentor certification, and program evaluation.
Collaborate with HR and cross-functional teams to embed fairness and inclusion across talent practices: recruitment, promotion, performance management, and policy.
Facilitate learning opportunities, resources, and strategic partnerships to increase understanding and adoption of inclusive leadership behaviors.
Manage Culture & Inclusion related community engagement and partnerships with external organizations, including nonprofit partners, chambers, and advocacy groups.
Collaborate with HR Partners, Operations, Talent Acquisition, and Learning & Development to integrate culture commitments and inclusive practices into the full employee experience.
Internal Communications
Plan and implement an integrated, multi-channel internal communications and employee engagement strategy which aligns Flynn's people behind the Company's culture, values, and strategic commitments.
Develop best practices in internal communications and help Flynn tell its story across all relevant platforms (e.g., intranet, email, events, webinars, in-person meetings, etc.). Successfully drive deeper engagement with a wide range of stakeholders.
Provide communications counsel to senior leadership. Collaborate to draft internal messaging, updates, presentations, and talking points that reflect and reinforce Flynn's culture.
Lead storytelling and multimedia efforts to build emotional connection to Flynn's mission, spotlight employee experiences, and increase visibility of Culture & Inclusion initiatives.
Work with our brands to enhance and create strong communication methods and best practices within their brands, as well as between brands and support centers.
External Communications
Lead efforts to package internal culture and business successes into compelling external narratives that enhance Flynn's employer brand.
Partner with external agency to amplify our reputation across media channels, industry forums, and social platforms-positioning Flynn as an employer of choice and values-driven brand.
Elevate the external profile of Flynn's executive team through strategic content development, media opportunities, LinkedIn presence, speaking engagements, and industry publications.
Provide strategic support for crisis communication efforts, ensuring timely, aligned, and brand-consistent messaging in partnership with franchisors and cross-functional stakeholders. Anticipate and respond to reputational risks with clarity, coordination, and professionalism.
Experience and Professional Qualifications
The successful candidate for Director, Inclusion and Strategic Communications will have a proven track-record leading inclusion, employee engagement and communications strategies, including experience in an organization of similar size and complexity. The successful candidate will be a proven performer capable of bringing creative approaches to a results-driven organization.
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Additional requirements will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Minimum of 10-12 years in roles related to communications, employee engagement, inclusion, and/or human resources, with a proven track record of leading and implementing successful cultural initiatives.
Proven success in designing and executing inclusive programs that move the needle whether through internal campaigns, training, or culture-building initiatives.
Exceptional written and verbal and storytelling capabilities with an eye for strategic messaging. Experience with employee messaging strategy development, with capabilities to work with senior leaders, cross functionally, and drive communications alignment.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
Proven ability to influence, coach and collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
Deep understanding of culture principles and their practical application within the organization.
Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.
