The Mechanic Heavy Equipment position involves maintaining and repairing railroad equipment for optimal performance and safety. This is a full-time job (40 hrs/wk),subject to alternating shifts, night, on-call, weekends, overtime and holidays. A typical work week is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Travel is minimal. Trainingfor this position is company-paid on-the-job training. Key responsibilities may include: Disassembling, repairing, modifying, remanufacturing, and troubleshooting railroad roadway maintenance equipment and their operating and control systems. This may include: Hydraulic systems and components (pumps, valves, motors, cylinders, filters, hoses). Pneumatic systems (compressors, control valves, air braking systems, dryers). Gasoline and diesel engine overhauls (fuel systems, diagnostics, tune-ups). Driveline components (axles, bearings, ring and pinions, springs, roller chains, sprockets). Final and planetary drive systems (gear reduction assemblies, structural and working components). Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.
