Accounting Specialist

The Accounting Specialist will perform a variety of financial, administrative and clerical tasks as an integral member of the Financial Services team. The ideal candidates principal responsibilities will include performing the basic accounting functions of the cooperative, including assisting in the preparation of journal entries, completion of the monthly and annual financial statements and coordinating with various departments on the performance of any needed accounting activities to ensure accuracy of financial reporting. As part of the team, it will also be expected that a thorough analysis of the general ledger and bank account reconciliation be completed in a timely manner. Other miscellaneous tasks completed quarterly and annually consist of capital and operating budget analysis, financial statement audit information requests and inventory price testing to confirm inventory values, vendor pricing and compliance with purchasing policy. Successful Accounting Specialists will have a combination of social and technical skills including critical thinking, attention to detail, organization, professionalism and have the ability to express oneself orally, in writing and must work well as part of a team.

Preferred qualifications include a bachelors degree focused on finance or accounting along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.

Preferred experience for the ideal candidate involves knowledge of the operations of a rural electric cooperative, accounts payable, accounts receivable, maintaining accurate general ledgers and applicable financial, administrative and regulatory standards, rules and regulations that control the operations.
