This position is deadline based.
They average about 2-6 hours per article - depends on how the worker divides their time.
They plan on each writer to have about 2-4 articles a month depending on their availability and how much time they devote to the assignments.
The reason for X headcount is the volume of content that can be distributed typically has quick turnaround and they are more successful with multiple freelancers. They also like to have people on the team with different skills and writing styles to contribute to the variety of the writing they do. Some of these writers may have better backgrounds in certain areas than others as well.
Job Description:
Manager will send out assignments every month (typically at the end of the month), worker will be given a due date, provide a description of the assignment/project etc. Role is freelance in nature and can be completed on their own time but work would not exceed 10 hours a week. Potential for additional work if the candidate is interested, but not guaranteed and dependent on overall business need.
Must have SEO marketing knowledge, and know how to write for an SEO marketing blog, meant for specifically for organic traffic (80% of their web traffic). Do not need to be SMEs in anything in particular, but need to be able to conduct their own research, be adaptable to match brand voice, and be flexible. Individuals with experience writing for Sales is not applicable. Organic, top of funnel work. Someone who has experience working directly within a similar space (education blogs, not so much a "personal" blog or voice) would excel in this role. Experience with Microsoft 365, Word (online version, not just desktop), Sharepoint, etc. Experience with Project Management tools nice to have (currently utilize a platform called Work Zone that is similar to Asana). Must include a portfolio of previous writing work in the past. One interview and then manager will provide a writing assessment to those she is interested in moving forward with. Can be hired from anywhere in the US, though manager sits in EST.

This freelance writer role on our Content & Creative Services team will get to work with seasoned SEO experts, innovative creatives and help fuel a dedicated content engine by writing fun, well-researched blog articles that drive top of funnel, organic traffic to the company's Resource Hub Blog and social media engagement for families interested in enrolling their K-12 student in online school and already enrolled families.
Working remotely, this part-time freelance writer will collaborate with the Content & Creative Services team to ensure the successful delivery content, including updating existing legacy articles and writing original pieces based on a brief and set standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for writing, interest in audience-focused content marketing for families with school-aged children and teens, and familiarity with writing conversational, SEO-optimized blog content that informs, engages, and motivates readers to deliver on business goals.
Required Skills:
Ability to write blog content across a wide range of topics, adhering to outlined best practices, brand voice, and brand standards
Ability to write all aspects of a post in multiple formats, including:
Article body copy
Interactive in-post infographics
Catchy article headlines
Organic social media post copy driving to article
SEO Optimization: Utilize provided SEO keywords to research and write content with organic optimization in mind
Topic research and citation:
Perform third party research and review trends from competitors in digital content space to ensure written articles are relevant to today's marketplace, are cited and are fact-checked
Conduct interviews with subject matter experts, ghost-write content, and/or bylining their articles
Ensure compliance with company's brand standards and style guide
Embrace a constructive-feedback culture: Accept and implement feedback in a timely manner and apply feedback forward to future work Self-Motivation: Ability to work collaboratively with internal team's project manager, communicating early and often bandwidth and expectations.
Experience:
Formal writing samples of previous blog articles, thought leadership and/or SEO-optimization projects must be submitted along with resume
Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience writing and editing digital marketing content, namely for blogs
Skills:
Knowledge of and experience with crafting content for SEO, including optimizing writing for SEO/SEM, especially SEO to drive clicks, conversions, and returning users
Writing for the web that is persuasive, conversational, and that leverages catchy headlines, linking strategies, brevity when needed, and CTAs
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, including knowledge and adaptability of editorial style guides and tone
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects based on business-critical needs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to handle situations with diplomacy and a professional demeanor at all times.
Ability to consult with internal constituents and draw information from others; produce written materials as required with permissions & legalities
Understanding of/interest in current and future digital trends across platforms
Preferred Qualifications:
Solid background in SEO and SEM principles and methodologies
Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity of search engine optimized sites that rank high on major search engines for relevant keywords
Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media / social media
Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work across functions
They will mainly work independently but occasionally can work along side others on the Creative Services team.
Someone with strong SEO optimized content background, research, blogs, journalism, and agency copy writing experience will excel in this role.
Portfolios are key unless you can provide 5-10 writing/editing samples.
Someone with a background in education (a former teacher turned writer, or something with an education degree or who has written for education publications previously) will excel in this position. Even someone with a background in psychology or psychology-based writing or has written for kids / parents would be a benefit to this position.
We want to ensure this is more conversational styled writing and not so much informative or overselling.
