General Ledger Accountant

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical General Ledger Accountant with Accounts Payable responsibilities to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in cost accounting, general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and budget analysis.

Responsibilities

Enter and review financial data and transactions in the general ledger.

Prepare journal entries, cash disbursements, and cash receipts.

Perform monthly and year-end closing activities.

Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts.

Generate and analyze financial reports to support business decisions.

Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.

Support audits and assist with tax documentation and filings (e.g., sales and use tax).

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Maintain accounts payable records using accounting software.

Process PO (3-way match) and Non-PO invoices.

Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.

Coordinate with procurement to address invoice issues.

Prepare and process payment batches.

Assist with AP-related tasks during month-end close.

Essential Skills

4+ years' experience in full cycle Accounts Payable (mid to high volume).

1+ years' experience in General Ledger Accounting (month end, reconciliation, journal entries, allocations, etc.).

Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, formulas) and ERP systems.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (or equivalent years of experience).

3-5 years of accounting/finance experience, including GL and AP functions.

Manufacturing or international experience is a plus (VAT knowledge would be beneficial).

Understanding of GAAP principles.

Experience with balance sheets and accruals.

Work Environment

The position is based in Sterling, VA and requires working in the office five days per week, with the potential to earn a hybrid schedule with strong performance, allowing work from home on Mondays and Fridays. The role operates during normal business hours with some flexibility, in a fast-paced environment with high volumes. Flexible reporting times between 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. are available once established in the role.

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $43.27/hr.
