Job Description
The Student Technician I will be responsible for basic preventative maintenance inspections, Facilities Condition Assessments, assistance with facilities documentation, and organizing project records. Will be asked to go to job sites to conduct fieldwork, site support, do research, and provide technical assistance. Will also do routine building inspections and help with AV issue as they arise. Must wear personal protective equipment and uniform as required. Assist full-time employees as needed in support of building maintenance and classroom set up.
This position reports to the Facilities and Construction Director.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree granting program at an accredited college or university.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Must have a valid motor vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Any experience in building trades, maintenance, or knowledge of Construction Science and Facilities Management.
One year of related work experience.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions year-round, potential allergens, and elevated noise levels.
Physical conditioning consistent with movement/lifting up to 45 lbs. of containers and equipment using assisted-lift equipment, standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling.
Ability to use hand tools and hand power tools.
Ability to operate a vehicle.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be mechanically inclined.
Knowledge of basic hand tools and hand power tools.
Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet applications, and presentation software applications, such as Microsoft Office programs.
Excellent interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to actively demonstrate the TEEX Values - Safety, Teamwork, Adaptability, Respect, and Stewardship.
Equipment:
Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
Hand and power tools such as drills, saws, and grinders.
Occasional use of agency vehicles.

This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle.
This position may require up to 5% or more travel.
Must comply with OSHA/NFPA standards.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:
Facilities Maintenance and Administration - 60%
Adheres to safety policies while working on assigned tasks within TEEX facilities.
Utilizes a checklist to ensure proper Project Safety Analysis of TEEX facilities is completed.
Updates Facilities Manager of any issue with TEEX Facilities.
Set up classrooms and conference rooms as needed.
Help analyze project data and assist in drafting reports.
Help gather and document project progress through photos and reports.
Support material tracking, deliveries, and inventory management.
Observe and assist with surveying, blueprint reading, and quality control tasks.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions.
Communicate project updates, concerns, and recommendations.
Conduct research on construction materials, techniques, and sustainability practices.
Fieldwork and Site Support - 30%
Assists with site inspections and safety compliance checks.
Learns and applies industry software such as BlueBeam, AutoDesk, and Adobe Pro.
Assists in reviewing construction drawings, models, and specifications.
Coordinates with project managers, project engineers, and site supervisors.
Assists in client and stakeholder presentations or site walkthroughs.
Tool/Equipment Operation - 5%
Uses the appropriate tools/equipment to perform assigned tasks.
Supply Acquisition - 5%
Occasionally picks up materials, supplies, and equipment from local vendors.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
Complies with the work schedule provided, maintains a set work schedule and reports to work and duty assignments on time per the class schedule provided.
Shows safety awareness and demonstrate safe working habits/practices.
Ensures that buildings and property are secured when unattended.
Takes all appropriate measures to prevent loss, theft, or damage to any TEEX property, and immediately reports any loss, theft, or damage to TEEX property to a supervisor.
Attends scheduled safety meetings.
Completes listed training to include TEEX Safety Orientation, Basic First Aid, and in-house training prior to operation.
Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and specified uniforms as required.
Positively interacts with students, vendors, customers, and staff.
Maintains a clean and neat appearance.
Performs additional work duties as assigned.
