Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented and skilled Staff Accountant to join our team in Cranbury, New Jersey. This is a long-term contract position offering an opportunity to work on a variety of accounting functions, including month-end close processes, reconciliations, and tax calculations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in accounting, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy.

Responsibilities:

Execute month-end closing activities and prepare related reports to ensure timely financial statements.

Process accounts payable invoices, ensuring all necessary approvals are obtained and properly documented.

Verify and update changes to vendor addresses or bank account details as part of maintaining accurate records.

Prepare and review wire transfer and check payments, ensuring all supporting documentation is in place.

Reconcile cash accounts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other reserve accounts on a monthly basis.

Apply customer payments to maintain balanced cash receipts accounts and promptly resolve discrepancies.

Create journal entries for recurring transactions, including travel cards, P-Cards, and other assigned entries.

Calculate and record monthly depreciation and prepare related journal entries.

Compute periodic sales and use tax for the State of New Jersey and ensure proper journal entries are recorded.

Follow internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and comply with financial policies and regulations. Requirements - Proven experience in accounting roles, with relevant formal education being a plus.

Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all tasks.

Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills such as pivot tables, charts, and graphs.

Familiarity with U.S. financial reporting standards and their application.

Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt, with the ability to self-teach as needed.

Experience with accounting systems is preferred.
